Director of Operations

Congregation Beth Elohim (“CBE”) ‘s mission is to be a welcoming and inclusive synagogue, proudly rooted in Jewish history and identity, and profoundly open to different backgrounds and divergent points of view. The Director of Operations reports to the Executive Director / COO and works closely with the Senior Staff to ensure the successful operation of varied aspects of the Congregation. While the Director of Operations has specific areas of responsibility, working as part of a collaborative, innovative team is critical to the success of the position.


This is a very exciting moment in time for CBE as we embark on a merger with another historic Brooklyn Synagogue. The Director of Operations will play a critical role as part of the leadership team responsible for the integration of systems, programs and an additional building to our campus.

This is a full time / exempt position. Must be available during the High Holy Days. Availability after hours, on weekends and holidays is sometimes required.


The key responsibilities for this position include:

Facilities:
-Responsible for daily operations, planning and execution for our multi-building campus
-Prepare and manage scheduling of facilities team
-Ensure adherence and contribute to facility Covid-19 related guidelines and protocols
-Oversee third-party cleaning vendor and establish protocols for cleaning and disinfecting and maintain appropriate logs
-Establish strong relationships with and manage service providers and vendor partners required in our operations
-Ensure building code compliance
-Obtain all necessary Certificates of Fitness
-Develop benchmarks and policies to control costs

Capital Projects:
-In conjunction with E.D. oversee significant multi-year construction projects
-Oversee timelines and budgets

Security:
-Serve as the primary contact with our security vendor, NYPD and relevant agencies
-Schedule security coverage and ensure effective security as required for our events and programs
-Develop and coordinate applicable training
-Ensure that all security systems, including monitoring, cameras and alarm, are in working and safe condition; provide ongoing evaluation and upkeep of security systems

Programs & Events:
-Collaborate with Engagement Team to fully understand and meet the needs and expectations of all events
-Responsible for the overall logistics related to all programs and events
-Coordinate all appropriate event setup details with facilities team and related vendors
-Provide supervision, leadership, coaching and professional development to members of the Engagement Support Team

IT:
-Serve as the primary contact for all staff IT needs
-Coordinate with third-party vendor
-Pro-actively evaluate IT equipment and needs

Qualifications
-Bachelor’s Degree
-Minimum 5 years of experience in operations, facility management and leading teams
-Ability to build strong relationships and interact effectively with a diverse group of staff, clergy, and community members
-Professionalism and excellent standards of personal presentation are a must for this front-facing role

-Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines. Able to work independently, with strong initiative.
-Superior attention to detail and accuracy, highly developed organizational and project management skills.
-Strong financial acumen, ability to manage large budget
-Proficient in G Suite and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of ShulCloud and Salesforce a plus
-Knowledge of Reform Jewish life cycle events, customs and rituals a plus.
