Position Summary: Geriatric Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) to oversee the Caring and Aging Program, a caregiving and aging services program located in the Jewish Federation of Arkansas serving the Jewish community in Arkansas. The LCSW will sustain the current program and will work to develop any new services and/or resources according to identified needs of the statewide Jewish community. The LCSW will engage with Jewish community members in order to enhance the Caregiving and Aging Program as a trusted and meaningful part of the JFAR community.
The position reports directly to JFAR’s Executive Director regarding operational and administrative duties of this position. This position also meets regularly with the Social Work Monitor, an LCSW from the Caregiving and Aging Committee, to review clinical work being completed for JFAR’s Caregiving and Aging Committee. The monitor’s advice and concerns will be discussed with the social worker directly or in Caregiving and Aging committee meetings. The monitor will participate in yearly performance reviews and may make recommendations to the Executive Director regarding clinical work.
The position will also be responsible for:
(50%) Social Work: Consultation, Education, and Resource Development
• Conduct individual, family, or group counseling/information sessions.
• Consult with families, rabbis, physicians, and service providers about individual and community needs.
• Document intake of new clients and record any interactions with Family Services clients within a 48-hour time frame and place documentation in Dropbox for viewing by Social Work Monitor.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of a caregiving and aging resource databank with administrative staff and volunteers of JFAR.
• Conduct and/or arrange speakers for talks/training sessions, primarily on issues related to caregiving and aging.
• Report regularly to JFAR’s Caregiving and Aging Committee to report on clinical work with clients and families observing HIPPA and confidentiality policies.
(30%) Program and Service Coordination and Development
• Identify/recruit, train, assign, and manage volunteers to implement components of the program and services. Enlist volunteer support as needed to assist in the recruitment, training and managing implementation of programs.
• Organize and oversee existing/planned programs and services, including the Friendly Visitor Network, Coffee Cake and Conversation series, Men’s Group Luncheons, Caregiver Support Group, and Medicare Workshop. Enlist volunteer support as needed to assist in implementation of these programs.
• Develop new programs based on identified JFAR and community needs assessment.
• Utilizes social media and other electronic and/or written communication modes to raise awareness and visibility about programs and resources of caregiving and aging issues in the JFAR community.
• Engage with Jewish congregations to partner on programs and services.
• Collaborate with other organizations in the communities served to provide/enhance programs and services.
(20%) Family Services
• Engage with family services clients in need of financial assistance and/or community resources and coordinate assistance requests with the Family Services Representative on the Caring and Aging Committee.
• Supports appropriate interventions with Family Services clients with acknowledgment of socioeconomic, cultural, mental-health, and other issues that may be facing clients.
• Document intake of new clients and record any interactions with Family Services clients within a 48-hour time frame and place documentation in Dropbox for viewing by Social Work Monitor and/or Family Services Representative on the Caregiving and Aging Committee.
• Connect with families in need of assistance for scholarships to Jewish camp, Jewish preschool, and/or religious school.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education: LCSW required. Experience in community and program development and implementation. Must have experience and understanding of needs and resources for older adults. Must have or express an interest in increasing knowledge and understanding of Judaism and Jewish culture.
• Participate in weekly status conference with Executive Director and maintain an open, informative communication exchange with the Executive Director regarding any issues or concerns within the program.
• Must submit accurate and timely reports to the administrator according to policy and utilizing forms required by the organization includes intake form, status of services, and implementation of interventions required. Must enter any notes and follow-up in Dropbox within 48 hours of inquiry/interventions.
• Must have excellent organizational skills to maintain case files and provide documentation of services provided to clients.
• Proficient in computer skills and programs necessary to fulfill position requirements. Must be knowledgeable of social media to communicate with community.
• Must be a self-starter who accepts ownership of programs and successfully complete objectives and routine duties in a timely manner.
• Able to demonstrate flexibility, initiative and have the ability to work independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to advocate for clients and inform Executive Director in all mentioned job requirements.
• Able to build positive and trusting relationships with clients and families and observe behaviors and actions in order to respond appropriately and to develop applicable strategies for intervention.
• Strong assessment skills to identify needs within an ongoing spectrum of need from initial identification of a problem to independent living or nursing home facilities and hospice.
• Strong ability and passion for connecting elders both within the community and with outside resources to meet identified needs (through the Friendly Visitor Network, support groups, and Jewish holiday events).
• Interaction and communication with clients and families always reflects a basic understanding of age-specific issues, respect for privacy and confidentiality as well as understanding of the stress associated with illness, injury, and the healthcare experience.
• Provide group therapy such as a Grief and Loss Support Group or Caregiver Support Group or ensure a qualified leader is available to lead the group.
• Assess needs, recommend resources, and consult with Family Services Committee for clients requesting financial assistance.
Physical Requirements: A valid driver’s license and good driving record; ability to push disabled/older adults in a wheelchair and to help disabled/older adults maneuver from wheelchair to chair.
