Overview and Purpose:
The Community Outreach Associate will be a critical member of the URJ OSRUI team responsible for managing marketing and communications operations. The Community Outreach Associate will also be the key team member engaging various audiences through social media, website, email, direct mail, and other platforms to advance OSRUI’s recruitment, community engagement, fundraising and audience growth goals. The Community Outreach Associate will also be a key program participant and summer staff recruiter on the URJ OSRUI & youth team.
You are passionate about the mission and vision of the URJ and OSRUI and youth programming. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and can develop strong relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders throughout the community. You are passionate about all types of communication and marketing and know how to effectively communicate through a diverse set of communication channels. You are passionate about website management, graphic design and are willing to jump in and learn new skills to help URJ OSRUI achieve its mission and impact. You can manage and prioritize many ongoing projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment. You are positive, assertive, professional and an all-around team player. You bring a ‘whatever it takes” mentality and are ready to roll up your sleeves and work in a variety of ways to help push the URJ forward.

Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI) is one of the URJ’s summer camps, located in Oconomowoc, WI, with the year-round office in the Chicago area. OSRUI serves over 1,000 campers each summer and is a hub of Jewish life in the Midwest with programs and rental facilities that operate year-round.
What you’ll do as our Community Outreach Associate:
-Develops, produces and distributes marketing materials (direct mail, email, social media, print and online advertising) and program information necessary to promote URJ OSRUI programs in accordance with marketing plan.
-Creates an annual outreach & communications plan that coincides with programming and development goals. Plan a diverse mix of promotional approaches to increase participation in URJ OSRUI & URJ programs and to amplify our key messages and content
-Responsible for web content and creation of branded content in key areas of programmatic offerings, websites, and social media outlets
-Design and produce appealing graphics and content
-Acts as the Brand Advocate which involves overseeing and monitoring content presented in all URJ OSRUI marketing materials.
-Use various channels of communication to expand the OSRUI’s outreach, increase visibility in local communities and improve brand recognition. Spread awareness of the positive impact of URJ programs and services. Utilize communication strategy to motivate donor support and influence potential partners/collaborators.
-Support the overall development process including: drafting compelling solicitation materials, gift processing, donor acknowledgment, and database management. Support the planning and coordination of assigned aspects of fundraising events in conjunction with the fund development team.
-Engage in ongoing contact/recruiting with and provide excellent customer service for all program participants, campers, staff, families, and in order to assure the highest retention possible.
-Lead in-person recruiting visits to congregations, camp fairs, and other opportunities
-Lead summer communications team in-residence at OSRUI
-Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Public Relations or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
-Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain information to diverse groups
-A “good eye” for marketing and branding pieces and the ability to tell a compelling story through both images and written text.
-Computer proficiency in graphic design, social media and web design.
-Familiarity with Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Drupal preferred.
-Comfort with learning new software quickly.
-Demonstrated experience in both designing and writing copy for marketing materials.
-Demonstrated experience in creative, appealing graphic design.
-Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
-Familiarity with Judaism and/or Jewish Camping is desirable.
-Must be able to reside and work at the summer campsite for the camp season (June through August). Off-season and summer hours to be discussed more specifically. Accommodations in the summer to be provided at camp for the Community Outreach Associate and their family (as needed).
-Must be able and available to travel, when needed, in support of camp programs and URJ activities.
-Participation in professional development programs, including annual conferences and gatherings, as appropriate
