Communications Manager

The Kitchen is a Jewish organization that’s one part indie Shabbat community, one part San Francisco experiment and one part toolkit for DIY Jewishness. At almost nine years old, The Kitchen hosts 300+ member households and hundreds of non-members who participate in our events. We get together multiple times a week for learning, eating, praying, and acts of service in locations across San Francisco. We believe that Jewish religious practice can transform: It can change lives, make meaning, and invest people in the world.

We’re looking for someone with a background in traditional internal/external communications, who’s also open to leading marketing and social media work. We want a strategic thinker who’s proficient at implementing their creative ideas and ready to work closely with our rabbis and full Kitchen staff to express our vision.

Job Responsibilities:
-Compose regular emails to members and event attendees
-Compose weekly Shabbat announcements
-Compose internal emails to Kitchen staff about programming and operations updates
-Manage the design and production of marketing materials
-Create communication strategies for each audience and programmatic area of The Kitchen (e.g., Freedom School, Kitchen Playground, our education series and more)
-Develop and manage a digital and email marketing content calendar
-Plan and execute digital fundraising campaigns and email appeals
-Manage all Kitchen social media accounts
-Promote brand-new Kitchen initiatives
-Manage comprehensive social media strategy to build our presence
-Oversee agency website Manage photos and PR for donors, stakeholders and members
-Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy, building our following and presence
-Be the keeper of the Kitchen brand: including tone, visual presence, and managing the brand across populations

Requirements:
-Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant field
-Proven experience with written communication (tactical and strategic)
-Strong knowledge of communication channels and techniques
-Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
-Excellent organizational and leadership abilities

Preferred Qualities and Skills:
-Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
-Ability to interact in a flexible and compassionate way with a wide variety of people
-Strong and consistent attention to details
-Experience in Excel, Squarespace, Mailchimp and Microsoft Word, with an interest in learning to use other programs as needed
-Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, purpose-driven and fluid environment
-Ability to be a ubiquitous presence and support staffer at Shabbat services, Jewish holidays and other events (as determined by the COO)
-Ability to work full-time
