About Us
Skokie Valley Agudath Jacob is a thriving, welcoming Modern Orthodox synagogue in Skokie, Illinois. Over the last several years, our community has grown. We are excited to scale up our operations to meet the needs of our growing community.

The Position
We have an exciting opportunity for an outstanding educator and energetic innovator to serve in a key role supporting the growth of our warm, inclusive Modern Orthodox community in Skokie as a Director of Family Learning and Community Outreach.

Applicants should be passionate about Torah education and halachic observance within an orthodox framework, connecting with and inspiring community members from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds, creating social good, and working with and empowering lay leaders and volunteers to plan meaningful programs. A confident and articulate public presence is necessary for success.

As Skokie Valley enters a critical period of strategic scaling through the addition of this position, this full-time role has high-visibility, autonomy, opportunity for impact, and growth potential. The candidate will need to be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively. Success in this role is predicated upon vibrant youth and family programming, but will be complemented with other activities based on the interests, background, and expertise of the individual.

Key Job Functions
There will be three major areas of responsibility. While three distinct programs, there will be natural synergy and overlap in participants across the three. The ideal candidate will find ways to integrate and build on the strengths of one program into the next.

Partner with Senior rabbi to launch Solu - Half Time
This position will help create and build a new community initiative called Solu. Solu seeks to create meaningful monthly volunteer opportunities for families in the broader community so they may express their Torah values and commitments to supporting the vulnerable in tangible ways. This position will promote a welcoming, inclusive environment for all Solu participants and will be responsible for logistical support and execution as well as social media presence and marketing.

Youth Director - Quarter Time
Skokie Valley Agudath Jacob partners with Kol Sasson, an independent partnership minyan that meets weekly in Israel Hall to create safe, inclusive, and meaningful youth programming on Shabbat, holiday mornings and beyond for dozens of children. The Director of Family Learning and Community Outreach will work with a joint KS/SVAJ Youth Committee to oversee Shabbat/holiday groups for youth (tots through teens), including hiring, supervising, and coordinating staffing.

Partner with Senior Rabbi to launch Shira Betfillah Program - Quarter Time
The Director of Family Learning and Community Outreach will recruit 8-15 pre-bar and bat mitzvah students from across the Chicago area to participate in an initiative to learn Shabbat davenning, parashat hashavua, and Shabbat rituals. Once recruitment and program design are in place, with the support of the Senior Rabbi, this position will staff the weekly classes and monthly shabbat dinners for students and families enrolled in the program.

Qualifications:
College degree, Masters in Jewish Ed or similar degree preferred
At least 3 years of cumulative experience in formal and/or informal Jewish education
Ability to be present for many but not all shabbatot in Skokie (3 per month)
Clear background check

Compensation:
Salary range: $45,000-60,000, competitive benefits package.
