JVS Human Services helps Metro Detroiters and their families maximize their potential by providing counseling, training, and support services for people with disabilities, job seekers, seniors, and others in need. Our approach is rooted in Jewish values and the steadfast belief that the best way to help people is to make it possible for them to help themselves.
Provide outreach to local colleges and organizations in the Jewish community and work cooperatively to develop and implement individualized training and support services to their job seekers.
Work in conjunction with NEXTGen Connect to assist young people to remain in or return to Metro Detroit.
Develop business contacts through relationships with JFMD to assist in the generation of job leads and postings.
Conduct group seminars in Self-Directed Job Search, Resume Writing, and Interviewing Skills.
Conduct an initial interview with designated applicants. Evaluate and assess applicant’s work history, education, training, job skills, salary desired, etc. to determine viable employment goals.
Assist participants with informational services such as current job market trends, skill identification, self-directed job search training, resume writing, and interviewing skills as needed.
Refer screened applicants to employers and coordinate interviews.
Achieve a placement rate that is consistent with current Agency goals.
Once employment has been obtained, provide follow-up services as needed.
Provide guidance in support of the job-seeking process.
Refer applicants to other JVS programs or services outside the Agency to enhance job readiness as appropriate and provide follow-up as needed.
Promote JVS employment services to area employers using marketing and job development techniques.
Maintain all documentation associated with client records, job development, placement, file closing, and required statistical reports.

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Development, Social Work, Psychology, or related field required.
One to two years of related experience in counseling, interviewing, job development and placement, public relations, and/or training.
Interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively communicate with participants, staff, and employers.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft programs, experience with databases is a plus.
Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports.
Knowledge of the Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit’s (JFMD) NEXTGen’s effort to maintain and enhance young adult’s involvement in metro Detroit.
Ability to work flexible hours and to travel to local community sites.
HOURS and LOCATION
Monday – Friday, hours will vary and are flexible, 1-2 evenings each week and occasional weekends
