Central Synagogue - Beth Emeth (CSBE) is a reform/reconstructionist congregation located in Rockville Centre, NY. We have been serving Long Island’s South Shore for over eighty years. We are a dynamic congregation, committed to the philosophy of Progressive Judaism.
We are seeking an innovative and dynamic part-time Director of Jewish Education to oversee and further develop our religious and Hebrew school program: The Jewish Experience (JE). JE currently serves approximately 80 students from Kindergarten through High School. The goal of JE is to create an exciting, stimulating and innovative environment for Jewish learning. Our Religious School currently operates 4 hours per week, from 9:30 am - 12 noon on Sundays, and for grades 3 and up on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 6 pm.
The Director will supervise all school activities, teachers, aides and volunteers under the guidance and direction of the Rabbi, while infusing a sense of ‘ruach’ to the children of our community. The Director's job will include the following: teacher recruitment and supervision; curriculum development including HS curriculum based on student interest; instruction and materials; program development; professional development; calendar development; registration; contracts and payroll, track attendance; budgetary responsibilities; and fostering relationships with students and parents. The Director will also oversee the Shabbat Showcase Service, which is a thrice yearly Friday evening thematic program developed in the classroom and run by students.
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with both Reform and Reconstructionist Judaism; experience in Jewish education both in the classroom and in managing teachers; strong, proactive organizational, administrative, interpersonal and communication skills; and experience with technology and digital learning. Additionally, the candidate should be able to create and implement rich and engaging curricula for grades K-12 that adheres to current educational best practices and JE parent and student needs. The candidate must have a commitment to creating an inclusive, interactive and stimulating educational environment and maintain an openness to mutual feedback.
