Temple Rodef Shalom is a large, vibrant, innovative Reform congregation in the DC suburb of Falls Church, Virginia. The Teen Engagement Director is responsible for coordinating and transforming all programming for 7th-12th graders, supervised by the Religious School Director and Senior Rabbi.
As a full-time member of the senior leadership team and our cohort of youth professionals, the Teen Engagement Director is a visionary, creative, energetic, exceptionally well-organized individual, able to form warm connections with our youth population and their parents. In partnership with educators, clergy, and lay leaders, the Teen Engagement Director will work to reimagine our education and youth programming to better meet the needs of our tweens and teens today.
-Lead the effort to redesign and reinvigorate Temple Rodef Shalom’s middle school and teen programming, creating a balanced menu of educational, social, spiritual and community service offerings. Our goal is to appeal to the diverse interests of teens, which may include the creative arts, social justice, outdoor education, STEM, leadership training, etc.
-Manage and direct N’tivot, our 7th-12th grade weekly Sunday evening Religious School program as well as Hineni, our individualized, alternative option. Responsibilities include teacher supervision, curriculum development, student support, parent communication and logistics.
-Partner with Religious School Director and clergy to create and support special programming and trips to include Confirmation and graduation, Confirmation NY Trip, participation in the Religious Action Center’s L’Taken seminar in Washington, D.C. and Civil Rights journey to the American South.
-Travel and attend regional youth group events.
-Coordinate Madrichim (Teacher’s Assistant) Program, including administration, training and programming.
-Supervise and support our junior and high school Youth Group Advisor as well as our 3rd-5th grade youth group advisor.
-Help to integrate formal and informal educational and engagement opportunities, creating a unified teen program. Encourage participation in NFTY regional and national events.
-Initiate outreach to TRS 7th-12th graders who are not currently engaged to form relationships, learn about their interests, and draw them into Jewish involvement.
-Participate with Temple Rodef Shalom’s clergy, educators and senior staff in regular meetings and be the “keeper of the teen engagement vision.”
-Maintain outreach and programming with TRS college students.
-Support marketing and communication efforts for existing and new teen programs through email, website, social media, and other strategies.
-Manage youth budget.
-Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree (preferred) in a relevant field - Jewish education, Jewish nonprofit management, etc. (preferred).
-3-5 years’ work experience in a relevant work setting (e.g., education, non-profit, or teen-focused work).
