Elementary School Science Teacher, Grades 3-5, Part-Time (.75 FTE), 12-month Leave Replacement
Maimonides School, a Modern Orthodox day school in Brookline, MA, seeks an energetic and experienced individual to teach 3rd through 5th grade science in our Elementary School for the 2020-21 academic year. The school is looking for a dynamic, creative teacher with demonstrated enthusiasm for developing young learners’ academic and critical thinking skills while nurturing their social, emotional, and spiritual growth; interest and experience in curriculum development; and a commitment to innovative pedagogy. Candidates should have an educational background in a range of sciences.
The focus of science teaching in the Elementary School is on interactive, experiential, and joyful learning that connects to a young learner’s natural curiosity about the way the physical world works. We emphasize hands-on inquiry, questioning and proposing solutions, conducting research, and analysis of student findings.
Responsibilities will include teaching science to three grades twice per week in a diverse community of learners. Maimonides’ commitment to our families requires significant written and oral communication about student work and progress. Our commitment to our students often requires individualized attention outside of the classroom. As we are committed to vertical integration of curriculum, coordination with Middle School science teachers is expected.
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of elementary or middle school science teaching experience, a wide-ranging background in science, and a commitment to work as part of a collaborative team that prepares students with the skills, critical thinking abilities, and content knowledge they will need to succeed as they develop as learners and progress toward middle school. A Master’s degree is preferred. Competitive salary and benefits are commensurate with years of experience and highest degree.
We want you to be part of our team! Maimonides offers an unparalleled dual curriculum in Judaic and general studies, with an emphasis on moral and spiritual development. From early childhood (2-year-olds) through 12th grade, our students are avid learners, eager to engage with each other, their teachers, and their community.
Join our family of outstanding educators and administrators who recognize each new day as an opportunity for creative ideas, collaboration, and connection. Maimonides is more than a school; it is a vibrant community whose members embody kindness and compassion for others.
