The Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (SSDS) is seeking qualified lower school general studies teachers to work in a collaborative, warm, academic environment. Candidate will be a role model who can help foster our students’ personal and academic growth, implement a variety of instructional strategies such as student-based inquiry and group discussion, and has familiarity with the latest educational applications to enhance student learning.
-Teach multiple curricula in language arts, social studies, and mathematics
-Develop unit plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
-Challenge students to become active independent learners and encourage each child's curiosity and creativity.
-Foster respect for others, a commitment to values, and tikkun olam (repairing the world)
-Evaluate students' academic and social growth through both formative and summative assessments, maintain records, and modify instruction to promote student growth, Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
-Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, conferences, email, and phone calls to discuss students' progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development.
-Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
-Work collaboratively with colleagues, both in and out of the classroom, as part of a learning community.
The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s or master’s degree in elementary education or special education, at least three years of experience in the classroom, a deep understanding of effective literacy instruction, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
