POSITION TITLE: Associate Regional Director & Liaison to the Chasidic and Haredi Communities
REPORTS TO: Senior Associate Regional Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assist in supervising program staff and interns, including contributing to their hiring, training and evaluation. May directly supervise one or more support staff.
LOCATION: NYC and travel throughout NY and NJ as needed

Connect and liaise with Chasidic and Haredi Jewish communities living in New York and New Jersey.
Conduct incident response in relation to anti-Semitic incidents within Chasidic and Haredi Jewish communities.
Conduct outreach within Chasidic and Haredi Jewish communities to explain and educate community members about ADL’s mission.
Conduct outreach to educate community members on the importance of reporting anti-Semitic incidents and hate crimes.
Assist Senior Regional Director and Regional Director in planning and implementing advocacy initiatives which advance ADL’s mission within the assigned region. Associate Regional Director will be based out of our NYC office but within New York and New Jersey will be needed as necessary.
Connect and liaise with Chasidic and Haredi Communities living in New York and New Jersey.
Respond to and resolve complaints of discrimination, anti-Semitic incidents and other civil rights issues. Conduct in-depth fact-finding research, initiating contacts and developing sources as appropriate. Coordinate with Civil Rights Area Counsel as appropriate. Ensure that required reports are maintained.
Develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with elected leaders and diverse interfaith and cross-cultural organizations active within the region e.g. African-American, Hispanic and Latino groups/Muslim leaders, Catholic scholars and other faith leaders.
Implement ADL programs and projects, tailoring them to local community needs and issues. Manage education and human relations programming such as educating the Chasidic and Haredi communities on the importance reporting anti-Semitic incidents and hate crimes. Conduct training sessions as applicable regarding the above-listed initiatives.
Recruit, develop and support lay leadership at all levels including youth leadership programs such as the ADL Grosfeld Family National Youth Leadership Mission, and campus student groups. May mentor students or oversee mentors as part of the Jewish Student Leadership Program.
Provide staff support and programming to lay-led committees which may include Civil Rights, Nominating, Executive, and others as assigned.
Represent ADL and give speeches in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of ADL’s mission.
Respond to inquiries from Chasidic and Haredi media and press outlets and from members of the public, demonstrating authoritative knowledge of ADL’s policies and positions and relevant local, national and world events. Read, monitor and respond to media reports and opinion articles.
Participate in government affairs activities, maintaining regular contact with state and local officials as well as with Chasidic and Haredi leaders and community members. Advocate for ADL issues in state and local legislature.
Monitor relevant civil rights lawsuits in the region and identify potential Amicus brief involvement. Keep the Civil Rights Area Counsel informed of developments. May coordinate civil rights debates.
Oversee assigned regional program staff and the programs for which they are responsible. Assist in the recruitment and supervision of office administrative support staff. Select and supervise interns. Ensure the smooth-functioning of the regional office in the absence of the Senior Associate Regional Director or Regional Director. May assist in budget preparation and general office management.
Attend regular work commitments, meetings, functions and events in New York City, New York counties outside of NYC, and New Jersey.
Participate in fundraising events, cultivate potential donors and assist in maintaining donor relationships.
Strong administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to work with and influence a wide variety of people.
Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills.
Strong public speaking and writing skills.
Ability to multi-task.
Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel).
Understanding and working knowledge of the Chasidic and Haredi Jewish communities within New York and New Jersey.
Ability to connect and communicate with diverse interfaith and cross-cultural communities.
Fluency or proficiency in Yiddish and English.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible human relations or community service experience including program and operational management experience.
Bachelor’s degree plus additional related college courses or professional training or demonstrably equivalent qualifications.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL and to attend community events. Some travel within the region is required. Occasional overnight travel is required. Must be able to travel throughout New York and New Jersey.
