Upper School Judiac Studies Teacher

The Emery/Weiner School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and collegial Upper School Judaic Studies Teacher to join our collaborative faculty. Responsibilities include teaching five sections of Upper School Judaica and serving as an advisor as well as participation in student life, coaching, and chaperoning duties according to the experience of the candidate and needs of the school. A strong candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of teaching experience and a desire to teach in a progressive, student-centered independent school that values innovative pedagogy and experiential education. An outstanding candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of innovation, flexibility, collegiality, and student success.

For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:
• Demonstrate a content knowledge and understanding across grade levels and content strands, including Tanach, Rabbinics, Jewish history, and philosophy with a focus on how the views of tradition inform aspects of our lives today,
• Differentiate teaching and learning based on students’ cognitive needs,
• Independently and actively present curriculum that balances reading, writing, and discussion grounded in evidence from texts,
• Develop creative, formative, and summative assessments and experiences to evaluate student learning,
• Employ innovative, student-centered teaching practices rooted in brain-based research,
• Provide opportunities for student self-assessment and engagement in the learning process,
• Exhibit a passion to teach and learn from young people and colleagues,
• Possess excellent communication skills, a willingness to mentor students, and the ability to incorporate 21st Century Skills into the curriculum,
• Be creative and possess a vision for excellence in academics at the high school level, a strong work ethic, and a desire to achieve success,
• Contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom,

Responsibilities Include:
• Teach five sections of Judaic Studies classes,
• Assess students’ academic and social development,
• Provide consistent oral and written communication to students and families,
• Serve as advisor to a small cohort of students,
• Collaborative work on grade-level, department, and interdisciplinary faculty teams,
• Contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom,

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Judaic Studies, Education, or related field
• Comfort with innovative and forward-thinking approaches to instruction
• A strong a commitment to professional growth
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Judaic Studies, Education, or related field
• Minimum of 5 years of proven success teaching Upper School students
• Experience implementing inquiry-based or project-based curriculum
• Experience teaching in independent schools
• Experience and willingness to coach an athletic sport
