Position Summary

The Program Associate/Executive is primarily responsible for managing two cohort programs intended for high-potential young leaders involved at UJA: Leadership Labs and the Observership Program. Leadership Labs is a year-long curriculum for UJA young professionals in their early/mid 20s; comprised of 6-8 sessions, it’s focused on imparting a deeper understanding of UJA’s work and broader issues affecting the Jewish community while also helping participants develop leadership skills and personal philanthropic interests. Observership is a flagship experiential opportunity that affords young leaders, in their mid 20s-30s, the chance to gain firsthand leadership experience by serving for one year on the board of a network agency or UJA planning committee.

The goals of these two programs are three-fold: to enhance the participant’s commitment to and passion for UJA; to deepen their understanding of UJA’s mission and work; and to develop their leadership skills. The Program Associate/Executive is responsible for creating programming, events, and tools in support of these goals. They will work closely with UJA’s Young Leaders Division to identify and recruit participants as well as keep colleagues informed as to individuals’ participation and satisfaction in the program. Additionally, they will coordinate with staff at host agencies and UJA’s planning committees to place and track program participants.

The Program Associate/Executive should also consider innovative and relevant engagement of program alumni. The candidate should be a team player and self-starter, creative, strong relationship builder and manager. They should have a level of sophistication and maturity in dealing with donors as well as with colleagues at UJA and in the field.

Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage all aspects of Leadership Labs (typical cohort size is 25-30 participants):
•Work closely with fundraisers from UJA’s Young Leadership Division to identify and recruit candidates
•Review nominations and invite participants to the program
•Develop curriculum for program (spanning 6-8 sessions), including topics, speakers, activities, etc.
•Steward participants while they’re in the program

Oversee and manage all aspects of Observership (typical class size is 55-60 participants):
•Work closely with fundraisers from UJA’s Young Leadership Division to identify and recruit candidates
•Review applications & conduct interviews with potential participants
•Facilitate an appropriate placement based on participant’s interest/experience
•Maintain dialogue with host agencies and internal UJA committees
•Ensure participant and host expectations are met
•Develop 2-3 wrap-around events and/or programming to support and enhance the experience
•Conduct exit interviews/next-step conversations with program participants

Actively engage program alumni in appropriate opportunities, which may include events, speaking engagement, agency/committee placements, or other.

Develop and maintain a leadership pipeline of next-generation prospects for internal UJA committees as well as agency boards.

Manage the mid-year review and rotations process for UJA internal committees. This includes meeting with committee staff to review member attendance and participation as well as coordinating rotations for those completing their terms to ensure a smooth transition.

Manage the LEAD Liaisons table, which includes representative from each Planning Department; convene quarterly meetings to provide input on LEAD’s work, initiatives, and processes.

Serve as the LEAD representative at the Young Leadership (YL) professionals table, and work to ensure coordination and synergy between YL and LEAD.

Partner in the general work and initiatives of the Leadership Engagement Department, including supporting discreet pieces of the department’s ongoing work and initiatives, as needed.

Experience/Competencies:
•2-4 years of previous experience in program management, donor stewardship, and/or leadership development.
•Demonstrated skill in relationship management with donors/lay leaders as well as professional staff.
•Team player with outstanding follow-up, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
•Detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication.
•Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision.
•Proactive with a can-do attitude and an inclination toward innovation.
•Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of UJA-Federation.
•Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint.
•Bachelor’s degree required.
