We are seeking a talented program facilitator, designer, and project manager to create and implement UpStart’s transformative programs for social entrepreneurs and their ventures. The Director, Entrepreneurs & Ventures (D-EV) is responsible for the delivery of best-in-class programs targeted to the needs of social entrepreneurs for each age and stage of venture development.
The D-EV is a full-time exempt position based in any of UpStart’s offices (NY, LA, Chicago, Denver, and Oakland). This position reports to the Senior Director, Entrepreneurs & Ventures, and works closely with the Program Associate-EV to implement UpStart’s portfolio of offerings for early, growth, and later stage ventures.
Design and implement UpStart’s wide range of programs for each age and stage of bold venture development--including the Entrepreneur Sprints, Venture Accelerator, and Alumni programs.
- Lead recruitment and selection process for E&V programs: Lead the processes and outreach activities that make up the recruitment and selection cycle for the Venture Accelerator and Entrepreneur Sprints, including setting timelines, developing communications, and leading candidates, staff and stakeholders through the process.
- Design and implement high-quality curricula and programming:
- Develop, in partnership with the Senior Director-EV, the curriculum for all Sprint and Venture Accelerator programs, both in-person and virtual, based on best practices and assessment of cohort needs.
- Act as the lead facilitator for core E&V programs.
- Serve as a coach to several participants.
- Serve as the lead project manager on the implementation of E&V programs:
- Work closely with the Program Associate-E&V to coordinate programmatic details for cohort labs and gatherings, including identifying locations, working with presenters/facilitators and creating effective run-of-show documents that reflect identified curricula, integration of organizational resources, and desired impact.
- Support the coaching process, managed by the Senior Director-E&V, for the Venture Accelerator; manage the coaching process for Entrepreneur Sprints. This includes coordinating site visits (when applicable), keeping track of deadlines, sharing reports and aligning goals with the curriculum, and being matched as a coach with a small number of our participants.
- Project management support for alumni programs.
- Administer the participant grants award process, reviewing proposals, making funding recommendations, and working with the Chief Development Officer to support participants as they learn.
- Collaborate with other departments on key E&V projects: .
- Support the build-out and implementation of the VA technology platform including communication with participants, training, and reporting.
- Partner with the SD-EV to work with regional staff to deliver programs for entrepreneurs & ventures that are accessible to their local communities.
- Assume primary responsibility for data collection and implementation processes for all of the E&V activities, including setting timelines and communicating with participants around these processes.
- Other projects, as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- A passion for UpStart’s mission to dream, build, and grow bold initiatives that enhance the vitality of Jewish life.
- Foundational experience with at least three of the following, with deep experience in at least one area: business or nonprofit strategy, leadership and management best practices, business model development, human-centered design, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, governance, and data collection & analytics.
- Front-line experience in business and/or the nonprofit world designing, building, and leading programs and/or organizations.
- Excellent people, communication, time, and project management skills.
- Access to Jewish networks, and understanding of the national Jewish ecosystem.
- Comfort with, and a successful track record of managing immersive and engaging educational programs.
- Ability to adapt with resourcefulness, flexibility, and a positive attitude in an entrepreneurial culture.
- Comfort with technological systems.
- Track record of demonstrating a high degree of professionalism and emotional intelligence.
- 5+ years’ experience in entrepreneurship or non-profit spaces, or 3+ years’ experience with an MBA or related graduate degree.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience working in a remote workplace.
- Experience mentoring or coaching others in a business or nonprofit context, including mastery of the hard and soft skills associated with the work.
