Synagogue Description
Brooklyn Heights Synagogue (BHS) is a warm, vibrant, urban Reform congregation of over 500 families. Located in historic Brooklyn Heights, NYC, we are home to over 200 students in our Religious School. Our synagogue’s Religious School is a supplementary after-school/weekend program that operates Sunday through Thursday with occasional programs on Shabbat. We also have a thriving community of adult lifelong learners who take classes, travel together and, in a variety of educational ways, seek to deepen their connection to Judaism, to each other and to the world.

Job Description
The goal of our Religious School (RS) is to prepare our children with the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual tools that will allow them to become active members of the Jewish community – able to celebrate Jewish holidays, participate in Jewish worship, model Jewish values, and engage in acts of tikkun olam, repairing our world.

The goal of our lifelong learning programs is to provide our membership with educational opportunities that provide knowledge, challenge intellectually, build community, and Jewish identity.

The Educational Program Admin (EPA) will function under the direct supervision of the Associate Rabbi-Educator. The EPA supports the operation of the school, our lifelong learning programs, and all other programmatic endeavors overseen by the Associate-Rabbi Educator. The EPA works closely with the central administrative arm of the synagogue in order to achieve success. The EPA will be responsible for working closely with off-site bookkeeper and our ShulCloud database. The EPA will also be in direct contact with our membership, our teaching faculty, and vendors with whom we do business. The EPA will be responsible for tracking expenditures against the departmental budget and ensuring proper coding of payables as well maintaining work records for payroll purposes.

The EPA should be highly organized, motivated, attentive to detail, and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication. The EPA should know how to manage large amounts of data, maintain records, work with our synagogue membership database (ShulCloud), have an aptitude for working with budgets and payroll, have experience with Microsoft software and Adobe Photoshop. The EPA should be skilled at problem solving, interacting with people of all ages, and be interested in working in a supplementary school environment.

The person should…
• Demonstrate the ability to be highly organized and maintain the daily administration of all education programs.
• Serve as a warm and steady presence who can keep in mind the mission and vision of the congregation while tending to the daily program.
• Support the Religious School and Lifelong Learning Programs
• Support the Associate Rabbi-Educator and the synagogue

• Education: BA preferred
• 3-5 years of administrative experience in an education or non-profit setting
• Jewish institution experiences ideal
• Must be experienced with Microsoft Office and institutional data management software
• Organized, strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and resilience required

Weekly Schedule:
This position is full-time with some evening and weekend work. Compensation commensurate with experience.
