Assistant Director of Children, Teens and Camp

The Assistant Director of Children, Teens, & Camp plays a role in the organization, administration, implementation, and evaluation of all J Camps. The Assistant Director of Children, Teens, & Camp is responsible for assisting in training camp staff in their responsibilities; supervising staff and program; counseling staff and campers, and ensuring camp is operating at its full potential. Between September and April, the Assistant Director of Children & Camping will work closely with the Director of Children, Teens, & Camp to plan for the upcoming summer, hire summer staff, and plan and facilitate on-going J Camps programs (including Vacation & School Break Camps, J Camps Carnival, J Camps Registration Day, and similar special programs).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
a. Design and Implement children’s programming throughout the year
b. Think creatively and assist in setting vision for the overall J Camps program and children’s programming at the J
c. Supervise Children’s Program Coordinator and KidZone afterschool program
d. Develop, implement and staff all Vacation Camps and school holiday programs for school-age children
e. Plan and supervise Kids Nite Out at the J Coordinator and support HC68 programming, one Saturday evening per month.
f. Plan and implement year round Staff Training in coordination with Camp Director and Children’s Program Coordinator
g. Work with Director of Children, Teens and Camping to design and implement a participant care philosophy (including behavior challenges and participants with special needs) for programs all year
h. Work with the Director of Children, Teens, and Camp to plan and implement all summer camp programs
i. Support Teen Programs Coordinator to develop counselor-in-training program
j. Coordinate all J Camps special events including Camp Carnival, Registration Day, and JCC events that have a “Camp” component (Jewish Culture Festival, Open Houses, and more.)
k. Create program, hire staff, and supervise Camp Kaleidescope at Merfish each summer (approximately 200 1st-3rd graders in traditional camp.) Serve as Director on Site for all Merfish camps, including Jr. Specialty Camps and Kaleidescope.

II. ADMINISTRATION & LOGISTICS
a. Facilitate interviewing, hiring, and staffing of J Camps and children’s programs
b. Work with marketing department to advertise for open J Camps and children’s leadership & staff positions
c. Oversee supervision and evaluation of all Camp Kaleidescope and Jr. Specialty camps staff in the summer
d. Communicate with parents
e. Work with staff to handle behavioral issues
f. Supervise & facilitate staff recognition for J Camps and children’s staff
g. Plan & facilitate carpool at Merfish
h. Help provide an atmosphere for good morale and well-being among the camp family

III. AGENCY EXPECTATIONS
a. Participate in J Special events
b. Attend All Staff Meetings
c. Schedule is Monday-Friday and adjusted accordingly when work on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) to take off time during the week

IV. QUALIFICATIONS
a. Bachelor’s Degree Required
b. 2-3 years of Camp Leadership Experience
c. Previous experience with children ages Kindergarten through 6th grade
d. Organized and self-starter
e. Enthusiastic
f. Compassionate
g. Patient
h. Good communication skills
i. Proficient in word, excel, and other Microsoft programs
j. Ability to lift 15-20lbs and be on his/her feet for extended periods of time
