Executive Director

Congregation Bonai Shalom is hiring an Executive Director. This person will become part of the leadership team - together with the Board, Rabbi, Education Director, and Staff – that is critical to sustaining our community. The Director’s primary focus is to ensure we deliver upon our mission and work to grow and strengthen our Jewish community.

Congregation Bonai Shalom is a vibrant and growing, USCJ-affiliated synagogue of over 210 family units that endeavors to be a community rich in:

• Avodah – vibrant and traditional spiritual practice and meaningful lifecycle events
• Torah – a flourishing school and adult learning community
• Kehillah – an inclusive community where members connect with one another socially, care for each other through acts of loving kindness, and steward the world beyond our walls through social action

Bonai Shalom is looking for the following in an Executive Director:

Experience and Skills:
1. Organized with the ability to organize others
2. Fundraising/development experience
3. Leadership and management ability
4. Interest in/knowledge of Judaism
5. Clear, professional, and persuasive writing
6. Financial acumen
7. Computer literacy

Precise scope and focus of ED responsibilities subject to revision by the right candidate, in collaboration with the Board and Rabbi

Membership Engagement
1. Member relations: member recruitment; member intake; membership forms and queries; volunteer engagement; referrals to Rabbi, Board member, or committee chair
2. Database management: coordinate with bookkeeping to enter membership and donation information; maintain updated contact and family information records
3. Programming: design and implementation in conjunction with leadership
4. Supervise mailings: oversee mail merge, labels, envelope stuffing, postage; manage Administrative Assistant's involvement

1. Helps create development and fundraising strategies
2. Oversees PR and marketing strategy, including advertising, media relations, and all published synagogue materials (brochures, newsletters, etc.)
3. Supervises graphic designer
4. Website: oversees volunteer or contract webmaster; working with board and clergy to ensure website reflects congregational vision and mission

Board Relations
1. Supports the Board in strategic planning and implementation
2. Creates Board meeting agendas in collaboration with Rabbi and Board president
3. Coordinates committee reports
4. Interprets and transmits policies of the Board of Trustees to personnel and insures compliance with them

Office \Facility Management
1. Supervises staff (Establishes organization lines of authority and fixes areas of responsibility. Recommends personnel policies including salary scales, hours of work, benefits, etc.), leads weekly staff meeting
2. Oversees: calendar, office, building, and equipment maintenance; supplies; IT ; financial duties

Facility Support:
1. Infrastructure maintenance
2. Kitchen services (catering and cleanup services)
3. Manages purchased supplies
4. Works with security/safety team

Rabbi & School Support
1. Maintains ongoing list of pastoral needs; keeps Rabbi informed of changes
2. Supervises support of special initiatives with Rabbi
3. Assists in scheduling b'nei mitzvah tutoring and family meetings
4. Coordinates with families for life-cycle events, ensures communication is properly maintained (e.g., bris, baby naming, marriages, funerals)
5. Attends most Shabbat services and all major events/programs in first year; afterward TBD with Executive Committee and Rabbi
6. Coordinates High Holidays with volunteer ritual committee
