Job Description - Youth Directors
Part-Time: Approx. 20 hours/ week
The Or Torah Youth Directors are responsible for the overall management and development of youth programming for the synagogue. The ultimate goal of the Youth Directors is to foster among local youth a greater connection to the synagogue, the Jewish Community and Torah observance in a fun and safe environment. This position is accountable for developing and leading a successful Youth Program comprised of diverse activities for various age groups and while working closely with volunteers including the synagogues Youth Committee.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Jewish Education
• Working alongside other leaders, developing and implementing a comprehensive program of Jewish education and experience incorporating existing programs
• Provide Torah learning
• Attract and retain increased numbers of youth to synagogue programs
• Work with the Rabbi & Executive Director to lead and promote the shul programming;
• Train & oversee the madrichim
• Coordinate occasional high-profile special programs for youth, parents, and the community
• Provide leadership training for older youth & Madrichim
• Provide an open and inviting home to the synagogue youth including hosting Shabbat and Chaggim meals (a stipend will be provided)
• Provide a monthly event as well as an event for every Chag for the youth including Rosh Hashanah, Succot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Purim, Pesach, Shavuot, and Yom Haatzmeut.
• Be a role model as visibly observant Jews

Communication
• Maintain daily communication with synagogue administrative supervisors
• Develop materials to promote events and foster relationships through a range of mediums, ie) from in-person conversation, constant contact, social media etc.
• Manage communication channels with parents
• Liaise with other Jewish community youth groups locally to deliver programs

Management and Administration
• Manage the annual budget for all Youth programming
• Staff programs and events with older youths, volunteers, or other teachers
• Develop a handbook and yearly calendar for Youth activities
• Together with the Youth Committee and synagogue staff, evaluate programming on an ongoing basis to ensure that the Youth program is meeting its goal

Requirements
• Seeking a couple with a four-year undergraduate university degree
• Minimum of two years proven success leading a youth program in a synagogue or similar, setting, including accountability for developing and delivering programs on own initiative
• Torah knowledge sufficient to deliver youth programs within an Orthodox synagogue
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with a wide range of people
• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, email, and social networking
• Strong leadership skills, dynamism, enthusiasm, and charisma and a demonstrated ability to engage youth
• Capacity to act as a role model by engaging with youth in a manner that is professional and consistent with Orthodox Jewish values
• Excellent organizational skills including time and stress management
