The H.F. Epstein Hebrew Academy (EHA) is a vibrant pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade child-centered Orthodox Jewish day school, dedicated to educating Jewish children in Judaic and general studies and nurturing children’s love for Israel and the Jewish people. The Director of Development will manage EHA’s fundraising program, working with school professional leadership and the board to ensure that the school reaches its revenue goals through an annual campaign, honoree dinner, constituency development initiatives, and solicitation of foundations and major gifts. The successful candidate will be ambitious and joins a dynamic and highly motivated school community that is invested in excellence and committed to ensuring the growth of EHA and Jewish education in St. Louis.
Manage an annual campaign raising of over $600,000; recruit solicitors, assign solicitations and provide solicitation training.
Establish ongoing solicitation training for EHA’s lay board with a focus on increasing peer-to-peer solicitations.
Create marketing and donor materials to be used within the community and for digital and mailed solicitations.
Manage the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts, including work with foundations and all aspects of donor management and cultivation.
Manage development related events, including the school’s annual dinner, design and mailing of invitations, coordination of event logistics, management of vendor relations, organize and lead solicitation process, and other necessary activities.
Launch an End of Year strategy for the school as well as develop opportunities for matching gifts.
Identify a preferred CRM tool that can be adopted by the school and used by relevant staff, under your direction.
Work closely with EHA’s board and increase the role of development and donor engagement skills within the school’s staff leadership.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of, and a passion for, Jewish education as well as an understanding of fundraising within an academic or communal organization. The best candidate will be a self-starter, goal-oriented development professional with planning and management skills and a proven track record of fundraising success with experience in donor cultivation, gift solicitation and event planning.
Bachelor’s degree required
5-plus years fundraising experience that includes major donor solicitation and management, staff supervision, and campaign design.
Flexible, creative and strategic thinker able to develop new ways to engage potential and existing donors and to create new giving opportunities and programs.
Passion for our school’s mission (ideally both the Jewish community and strong educational institutions).
Experience in working with board members and increasing their level of participation in fundraising.
Pride and professionalism in work accomplishments.
Strong organizational, project-management and time management skills, ability to manage data and develop, implement and oversee a budget.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Ability to creatively and practically solve problems, to multi-task and work on many projects simultaneously.
Ability to work effectively under pressure, make tough decisions and follow through on agreed upon initiatives.
A self-starter, willing to take initiative, with an entrepreneurial mindset, who can work independently or collaboratively with professional and lay leadership.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Familiarity with a CRM (Raisers’ Edge, Salesforce etc.) is preferred.
