Teen Program Coordinator

Jewish Family and Children’s Services is looking for a vibrant and creative program coordinator to work in YouthFirst, our teen department, in our San Francisco office. We would love to harness your innovation, energy, and commitment to cultivating Jewish leaders. YouthFirst helps teens develop the necessary life skills to move into young adulthood smoothly, successfully, and responsibly through a Jewish values-based lens. Our innovative programs include Jewish service learning, leadership skills development, and internship opportunities coupled with career exploration.

Our Program Coordinator must have a high level of energy, and demonstrated success running Jewish teen programming. Our ideal candidate will have experience in service learning and career exploration.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Academic Year Program
Purpose: to engage teens in a Jewish values-based service learning environment that incorporates best practices in positive youth development. Responsibilities include:

* Developing and maintaining meaningful connections with public and private schools and Jewish youth-serving organizations to recruit participants
* Planning a schedule of service events
* Developing and facilitating monthly workshops on leadership skills development
* Providing logistical oversight and communicating with students and families regarding all program activities

2. Summer Internship Program
Purpose: to expose teens to fields of interest to them; provide opportunities for them to develop practical on-the-job skills; enhance their understanding of the steps needed to achieve career and other long-term goals. Responsibilities include:

* Planning and implementation of the Summer Internship Program with Community Partners
* Conducting outreach to recruit and screen new interns
* Overseeing intern application, interview and matching process; conducting site-visits to observe the interns, and recommending modifications to work assignment, supervision, and other relevant areas, as appropriate
* Planning and coordination of interactive workshops

3. Career Exploration Programs
Purpose: to provide teens with an opportunity to explore educational paths and learn about others’ experiences in their professional journeys. Responsibilities include:

* Organization and facilitation of one/two Career Night panels to introduce teens to professionals in a variety of fields
* Orientation of professionals to the Career Night program
* Linking students with opportunities for career exploration, such as internship program and job shadowing
* Following up with presenters to evaluate their experience and elicit possible interest in hosting a summer intern

May include other teen programs and duties as assigned.


-- Bachelor’s degree
-- Minimum 2 years working with teens in a Jewish formal or informal educational or volunteer setting
-- Knowledge of positive youth development programming and principles
-- Excellent networking and outreach skills, including ability to clearly present program goals and work collaboratively with diverse staff
-- Experience facilitating large groups
-- Knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, and customs; knowledge of Jewish organizations in the area
