Reports to: Advancement
Position Purpose: Develop and implement and guide the school’s communication and community relations programs and activities.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for communicating the unique character and brand of our school through storytelling and effective communications strategies, across all channels including print publications, website, social media, email newsletter, and marketing materials

• Oversees all aspects of the production of all school publications, booklets and other collateral materials for the school including marketing and public relations brochures, annual report, strategic plan, school family directories, family handbook, and event invitations and programs

• Develop, write and manage the production of a school publication and digital communications for alumni, parents, and other constituents

• Design and edit the school's weekly email newsletter

• Manage and update the school website

• Create and manage video content for the school to document and promote daily activities of the school, highlighting key school events and activities.

• Manage school social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and

• Manage media relations, including writing press releases and cultivating relations with local media

• Work collaboratively and forge relationships with faculty/staff, admissions, development, and throughout the school

Other Responsibilities:

• Attend school events and take photographs for publication and organize all photo archives

• Utilize research and surveys to better understand retention and recruitment goals, awareness and perceptions

• Establish relationships with printers, designers and other vendors as necessary

• Manages and supervises volunteers as necessary

• Creates presentations and other materials in order to enhance marketing, public relations and selected fundraising activities

Qualifications:

• B.A. degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field with ideally five or more years of relevant experience in a non-profit environment

• Experience in independent schools preferred

• Ability to communicate effectively with school representatives, parents, students, alumni, donors and representatives from the business community

• Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively

• Technical proficiency with Whipple Hill/Blackbaud K-12

• Superb skills in writing and publication design, including technical skills and comfort with desktop publishing software (Adobe Photoshop and InDesign)

• Demonstrated ability to manage programs and activities

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds

• Generally works in standard office conditions and climate

• May work in varied weather conditions during special activities and events Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts

• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
