Executive Director - Temple Shaari Emeth

Location: Manalapan, New Jersey (Monmouth County, NJ)
Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $105,000.00 - $120,000.00 (commensurate with experience)

Temple Shaari Emeth is searching for an Executive Director who will be a warm, friendly, and
engaging ambassador for both new and existing members.

Temple Shaari Emeth (TSE) is a vibrant Reform congregation founded in 1966 with nearly 700 member
households. We are dedicated to cultivating a diverse and welcoming Jewish space, embracing new
ideas, and exploring different modes of worship and Jewish expression. We are engaged in lifelong
learning and spiritual searching, called by Torah to justice and social responsibility. With a
dynamic range of community activities, Jewish holiday celebrations, and lifecycle events, TSE is a
thriving hub of Jewish life in western Monmouth County.

We are seeking a dynamic, energetic and experienced Executive Director to join our senior
leadership team. You will be part of an exciting time at TSE as we continue to evolve following a
recent successful merger and major renovation. The Executive Director will be instrumental in
shaping the future of our congregation, creating a positive Jewish experience for our members, and
ensuring that our mission and goals are met efficiently and effectively.

The position will become available July 1, 2025. Our current Executive Director has been a vital
part of our team for 8 years and is leaving to pursue an opportunity outside of the synagogue
world.


Key Responsibilities:

• Temple Office Management: Oversee day-to-day business operations, ensuring efficient
administrative support for all synagogue functions. Implement and oversee operational policies and
procedures and maintain/improve audio-visual technology, as well as managing computer and software
systems and back- end infrastructure.
• Accounting and Financial Oversight: Collaborate with the Treasurer and bookkeeper to develop and
monitor budgets. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, oversee payroll and benefits, and
identify new revenue streams to pursue (including grants and cost-saving opportunities).
• Human Resources and Lay Staff Leadership: Manage full-time and part-time staff, ensure proper
hiring practices, and administer personnel procedures. Work with the Board to establish and enforce
policies.
• Building, Grounds, and Facilities Oversight: Oversee maintenance and custodial staff to ensure a
clean, safe, and well-maintained facility. Address facility-related issues and coordinate
maintenance schedules.
• Security: Manage safety and security for TSE in partnership with the Board and appropriate
committees. Develop security protocols, work with local law enforcement and contracted security
personnel, and implement security improvements.
• Synagogue Events: Coordinate and oversee support for all synagogue events, including services,
holiday celebrations, and community programs. Manage event logistics, facility usage,
staffing, and communication with participants.
• Communications and Membership Engagement: Partner with appropriate staff and volunteers to
support strategies for onboarding, engaging, and retaining congregants. Oversee both internal and
external communications, including the synagogue’s website, newsletters, social media, and
advertising.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a related field is a plus.
• Significant leadership and management experience in a not-for-profit organization, ideally in a
Jewish congregation, or equivalent experience combined with a strong Jewish volunteer background.
• Strong financial acumen with demonstrated budgeting and fiscal management experience.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in managing teams and understanding of HR rules and policies.
• Familiarity with the operations and maintenance of physical plants and related computer and
technology systems.
• Understanding and respect for Reform Judaism and a willingness to work within this
environment.
• Flexible hours with the ability to attend meetings (sometimes in evenings), work evenings,
weekends, and holidays as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Anticipated salary range: $105,000-$120,000- Commensurate with experience.
