JCOGS Family and Youth Education Coordinator

The Family and Youth Education Coordinator is a part-time (approx. 25 hours) Jewish professional with responsibility for the planning, teaching, and administration of JCOGS children’s education programs, as well as family holiday programs.  The position begins late Spring, early summer 2025.

  • Supervised by the Rabbi and Education Committee
  • Annual performance review in 3rd quarter

Teaching

  • Teach and develop creative, age-appropriate curriculum for monthly Tot Shabbat (birth to 1st grade) and weekly Olam Chesed (2nd-6th grade) programs of diverse learners, including Hebrew language instruction.
  • Coordinate with the Mitzvah teacher as necessary to ensure a smooth transition for Olam Chesed students into the Mitzvah program. 
  • Plan, publicize, and direct a 1-week summer day camp program at JCOGS.

Family and Youth Engagement

  • Coordinate and implement educational Shabbat and holiday programs for JCOGS families, including multigenerational Shabbatot, High Holy Day children’s programs, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Hanukkah, Tu biShvat, Purim, Passover, Yom haShoah, Yom haAtzmaut, and Shavuot programs. 
  • Work directly with lay leaders and parents as essential volunteers in the creation of family programs. 
  • In coordination with the Rabbi and parents, continue the growth and development of JCOGS satellite education programs in the Mad River Valley and Northeast Kingdom.

Outreach and Recruitment

  • Identify potential families for all programs, organize recruitment efforts, and foster meaningful relationships with potential and existing JCOGS families, translating leads into enrollment and membership.
  • Promote all education and family events through multiple forms of media.

Administration

  • Operate the Tot Shabbat and Olam Chesed programs, including creating and updating the calendar and family mailing list, managing materials and ordering supplies, and coordinating facilities usage.
  • Take the lead in developing and monitoring the education budget with the Rabbi and Children’s Education Committee.
  • Facilitate and track enrollment and attendance.
  • Attend JCOGS Board meetings as requested on education topics, and all Children’s Education Committee meetings, providing regular written and verbal updates on all education and family programs.
