Position Overview:

Bet Shira Congregation, a warm and inclusive Conservative synagogue in Pinecrest, Florida, is seeking a proactive and visionary Executive Director to lead our daily operations and provide strategic guidance in achieving our community’s mission and goals. This leadership role requires a collaborative approach, working with clergy, executive officers, staff, lay leaders, vendors, contractors, and congregants to sustain and grow Bet Shira. This is a full time in office position.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational & Administrative Management

  • Lead all administrative staff, vendors, and maintenance personnel, assigning responsibilities, managing schedules, and supervising work to align with synagogue needs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Preschool, Religious School, Camp, and Youth Directors, facilitating event coordination and handling administrative matters.
  • Act as liaison for external vendors, rental partners, and governmental agencies, ensuring all licensing, insurance, and organizational dues are up to date.

Staff Development & Team Leadership

  • Foster a professional, collaborative culture through effective supervision, mentorship, and training of administrative staff, including accounting, membership, marketing, preschool, religious school, and youth directors.
  • Oversee hiring, performance evaluations, and adherence to employment standards while supporting an inclusive and respectful work environment.

Finance and Accounting

  • Ensure policies, budgets and other directives of the Board of Trustees are implemented.
  • Assist the Temple Treasurer and Finance Committee in preparing the annual budget for Board approval
  • Work with the Treasurer to prepare monthly reports to the Board of Trustees.
  • Approve all expenditures in a timely manner

Facilities & Security Management

  • Manage synagogue facilities and rental properties, overseeing security measures, capital improvements, and maintenance activities.
  • Supervise maintenance, janitorial, and security subcontractors, ensuring effective fulfillment of their responsibilities.
  • Work with committees on facility and security matters, coordinating with tenants and rental partners to meet lease agreement standards and operational needs.

Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement

  • Partner with clergy, executive officers, and board committees to provide operational leadership and help achieve synagogue goals.
  • Represent Bet Shira in the community, fostering partnerships and strengthening synagogue outreach.
  • Membership Relations & Congregational Engagement
  • Act as a point of contact for congregants, clergy, and staff, ensuring clear communication and responsive support for congregational needs.
  • Supervise program and membership director, supporting successful event planning and evaluating synagogue programs.
  • Promote membership growth, retention, and engagement in alignment with community values.

Fundraising & Development

  • Develop fundraising strategies, annual campaigns, and grant applications to strengthen financial sustainability.
  • Collaborate with lay leaders on planning and executing fundraising events and initiatives.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Oversee synagogue communications, marketing, and technology to enhance engagement with the community.
  • Support clergy and staff in religious and ritual event planning, ensuring smooth logistical and operational support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in nonprofit or synagogue administration, with proven skills in operations and employee management.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with a track record of motivating and leading teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Jewish culture, traditions, and values.
  • Financial management expertise, including budgeting and fundraising.
  • Proficient in technology, social media, and communication tools.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
