Middle School Athletic Trainer & Associate Sports Performance Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW

Milken Community School is seeking a highly qualified, full-time Certified Athletic Trainer with a strong background in sports performance. This role will primarily focus on providing comprehensive care to our middle school student-athletes, including injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation, while also offering support to the high school program as needed. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our athletes through dedicated practice and game coverage, as well as contributing to the overall development of our sports performance initiatives. This position reports to the Director of Sports Medicine and Middle School Athletic Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide medical coverage: injury evaluations, treatment and rehabilitation primarily for middle school, while also supporting high school as needed. Apply protective or injury prevention devices, such as tape, bandages, and braces, as well as, first aid and emergency care. Assist in providing medical coverage for all athletic practices and interscholastic games. In addition, set up water for practices and games. 
• Manage Athletic Training Inventory: Maintain accurate inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels.
• Ensure Emergency Preparedness: Review and implement venue-specific emergency action plans with middle school coaching staff, ensuring all personnel are prepared for potential emergencies.
• Collaborate with Team Physician: Maintain a strong working relationship with Milken's designated team physician to optimize student-athlete care.
• Foster Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with the school's medical staff (nurses/athletic trainers) and academic support team to implement best practices for student-athlete health and well-being.
• Maintain Comprehensive Medical Records: Accurately document all injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation procedures in accordance with established medical record-keeping standards.
• Adhere to Ethical Standards: Comply with all policies and ethical guidelines related to healthcare delivery, as outlined by the NATA Code of Ethics.
• Support Strength and Conditioning Programs: Assist in implementing training programs and provide coverage in the weight room as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Core Requirements

• Deep Alignment with Milken Community School Mission: Demonstrates a genuine commitment to and understanding of the school's values and educational philosophy. 
• Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer: Holds current BOC certification and possesses a valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
• Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or a Related Field.
• Minimum 1-3 Years of Athletic Training Experience: Demonstrates practical experience in a similar setting, preferably with a high school or collegiate athletic program. 

Preferred Qualifications

• National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certifications: Holds relevant certifications in strength and conditioning or related fields. 
• Experience with Athletic Training Software: Proficient in using Sportsware, Magnus Health, TeamBuilder, and Google Suite applications.

• Proficient Assessment and Evaluation Skills: Demonstrates the ability to accurately assess injuries, develop treatment plans, and collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
• Independent Clinical Decision-Making: Exercises sound judgment in assessing injuries, determining appropriate treatment, and making return-to-play decisions within state licensure guidelines.
• Meticulous Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintains accurate and thorough injury records, treatment logs, and athlete progress reports.
• Exceptional Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Communicates effectively and professionally with athletes, parents, coaches, and medical personnel, especially in high-pressure situations.
• Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills: Effectively manages multiple tasks, prioritizes responsibilities, and meets deadlines.
• Expertise in Strength and Conditioning: Demonstrates proficiency in designing and implementing periodized strength and conditioning programs.
• Technical Proficiency (Preferred): Experience with Google Docs, Sportsware, Magnus Health, and TeamBuilder software.

Physical Demands

• Ability to perform medium-demand work, including lifting up to 50 pounds maximum.
• Capability for frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects.
• Sufficient medium strength to position patients for examinations.
• Ability to assist patients with mobility, including helping them on and off exam tables or the field/court.
• Ability to work effectively in outdoor conditions.

SALARY RANGE: $80,000 - $90,000
