Position:       Marketing Manager

Status:          Regular, Full Time, Exempt

Hours:         40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for events.

Reports to: Director of Philanthropy, Impact Strategy, and Communications

ABOUT COASTAL ROOTS FARM

Coastal Roots Farm is a nonprofit community farm and education center guided by Jewish values. The Farm’s mission is to cultivate healthy, connected communities by integrating sustainable agriculture, food justice, and ancient Jewish wisdom. 

 

The Farm’s impact initiatives include 1) regenerative agriculture, 2) equitable food access, 3) environmental education, and 4) Jewish life. We grow organic food in a climate-smart way, donate the majority our harvests with those who need it most, inspire youth to be the next generation of environmental stewards, and connect people of all backgrounds to Jewish holidays, values, and traditions through farming and food.

 

Jewish values guide the Farm’s Jewish values include Adam v’Adamah (Interdependence), Tikkun Olam (Repair), Arevut (Mutual Care), Peleh (Wonder), Kodesh (Sacred Time), which inform our strategy, approach, and priorities.


Coastal Roots Farm is located in Encinitas, CA on approximately 18 acres of land which we recognize as indigenous to the Kumeyaay and Luiseño peoples. Coastal Roots Farm was incubated by the Leichtag Foundation in 2014 and received 501(c)(3) public charity status in 2015. 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Marketing Manager will drive Coastal Roots Farm’s brand and messaging, implementing content across all digital platforms and communication channels. External communications should represent a full expression of the Farm’s four impact initiatives and Jewish values, and drive philanthropic support for and participation in Farm programs and events.

 

The right candidate will bring extensive experience driving communications strategy, with expertise in a wide range of digital marketing platforms, experience utilizing CRMs for audience segmentation, and be skilled in creating, editing, and scheduling content for newsletters, social media including short videos and reels, advertising, blogs, and more.

 

This candidate should have robust writing, designing, photography, and video editing skills, an attention to detail, a good eye for visual presentation, be extremely organized, and exhibit an ability to manage multiple simultaneous deadlines. Additionally, this candidate should resonate with the Farm’s mission and be able to clearly and succinctly articulate agricultural and Jewish concepts for a diverse audience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Essential marketing functions include:

  • Strategy and collaboration: Develop and implement communications strategy in conjunction with Director of Communications. Coordinate across departments (fundraising, programs, etc.) to support organization-wide initiatives with targeted marketing efforts, ensuring timely promotions of campaigns, programs, and events.
  • Content creation: Create, schedule, and post content for digital platforms including weekly newsletters, social media, advertisements, email campaigns, blogs, and website.
    • Develop clear, consistent, effective, and engaging messaging.
    • Design graphics for Farm events and programs including flyers, Farm Camp t-shirts, festival maps, etc.
    • Design print materials as needed.
  • Social media management: Plan, create, and post engaging content across social media platforms.
    • Create captivating and engaging reels and video content.
    • Grow and engage audiences.
    • Track performance metrics.
  • Email marketing: Develop and execute email campaigns including audience segmentation. Regularly utilize CRM (Salesforce) for targeted messaging.
  • Branding: Ensure brand consistency across all external digital and print materials.
  • Analytics and reporting: Track and evaluate engagement across channels and adjust strategies to maximize reach and impact.
  • Budget management: Manage the marketing budget across departments.
  • PR and media relations: Regularly meet with the Farm’s PR consultant to determine press priorities and increase visibility.
  • SEO and Outreach: Increase website traffic and improve SEO; improve presence on Google, Yelp, and local event listings.
  • Intern Supervision: Oversight of optional Marketing Intern as needed and desired.

 

Administrative and Other Duties:

  • Collaborate with Administrative and Data Coordinator on needed website updates and to conduct regular website audit for clarity, improved SEO, and accuracy.
  • Manage and organize digital assets.
  • Lead Farm Tours and give Farm presentations as needed.
  • Attend regular programs and communications meetings and Farm team meetings as appropriate.

Qualifications / Experience

Required:

  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing strategy and implementation including social and digital media, preferably within a nonprofit environment.
  • Proven experience in digital content creation, social media management, and email marketing including design and video.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams), Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), and other marketing tools (Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, Canva, etc.).
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills; ability to work independently, set priorities, and execute projects; strong interpersonal skills; highly collaborative; outstanding written and verbal communication.
  • Interest in Jewish holidays, values, and traditions, farming and climate, food systems and food justice.

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with Salesforce, SEO, and Google Ad Grants.
  • Experience taking high quality photographs.
  • Familiarity with Jewish values and concepts.
  • Proficient in Spanish.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or philanthropic organization.

 

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to the Director of Philanthropy, Impact Strategy, and Communications

Compensation

The salary range starts at $69,000 and is commensurate with experience. Coastal Roots Farm offers a competitive benefits package.

Typical Working Conditions

The Marketing Manager will work outdoors and in the office. There will be exposure to Southern California outside temperatures, chemicals used in the agricultural industry, and loud noises.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

  • Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs., cutting, and carrying.
  • Able to walk a minimum of .5 miles on uneven narrow trails with elevation gain.
