Communications Specialist

Reports to:      Director of Communications    

FLSA Status:   Part-time (up to 28 hours per week); non-exempt

Salary and Benefits: $25-30/hour; remote or in-person; must be able to be onsite some Thursday afternoons

 

About Us

Temple Rodef Shalom is a Reform Jewish congregation located in the Northern Virginia suburbs just outside Washington, DC. Since our founding in 1962, we have grown into the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia, serving about 1,800 households. We serve 200 families in our Early Childhood Center, nearly 800 students in our Religious School, and hundreds of people who walk through our doors weekly to pray, sing, learn, connect, and mark life cycle moments.

  • Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, this role involves close collaboration with clergy and senior staff, making it a pivotal position within the organization.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist and support the Communications Director in providing excellent communications services to support Temple activities.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and the Communications Director to draft social media content.
  • Assist in overseeing various other communication platforms, including emails and website content.
  • Assist with producing monthly publications, gathering necessary materials, and ensuring a holistic approach to content, design and layout.
  • Take photos and manage photo archives.
  • Assist with developing video projects.
  • Bring industry standards and best practices from the field to the Temple, including reviewing for grammar and tone, ensuring the consistent, dynamic, and warm voice that reflects the organization's essence aligns seamlessly with its goals and vision.

 Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field: digital marketing, communications, etc.
  • 2+ years of experience in digital marketing, communications or similar role.
  • Extremely strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with high standards and principles regarding brand integrity and accuracy.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop a plus.
  • Wordpress website content management experience a plus.
  • Strong project manager and team player who collaborates well with peers, high-level volunteers, and senior management.
