Title: Administrative & Communications Coordinator

Department: General/Administrative

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Exempt/Full-Time

 

The Administrative & Communications Coordinator will be the hub of the office at Congregation B’nai Tzedek. This position will report to the Executive Director and will work closely with senior staff, clergy, lay leaders, and congregants and performs administrative and communications support. The Administrative & Communications Coordinator is someone who cares deeply about non-profit work and Jewish communal life and making the synagogue experience the best it can be for our congregants.

Qualifications/Skills:

  1. Bachelor's degree including communication or related experience would be helpful
  2. Non-profit experience preferred, but not required
  3. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Outlook

  5. Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  6. Flexibility to accept new responsibilities and direction as necessary

Task Dimensions and Examples:

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain member database including membership information, donations, dedications and yahrzeits.
  • Maintain synagogue internal calendar 
  • General office and administrative support
  • Assist with Board meeting preparation as requested by Executive Director
  • Maintain Executive Director, hard copy files
  • Assist Executive Director on congregation communication including, thank you letter, and donor acknowledgements
  • Oversee office supply maintenance and acquisition
  • Assist with voice mail maintenance
  • Order memorial plaques, maintain appropriate files, and provide instructions to maintenance on placement
  • Manage facility rentals, including tours of the facility as needed
  • Coordinate with Executive Director to draft security schedule
  • Place service calls for office equipment as needed
  • Serve as back-up for answering phones

Communications Responsibilities

  • Prepare all synagogue correspondence: Egeret, The Scroll, other congregational communications
  • Build a monthly social media plan in partnership with the Executive Director and Program Director and execute.
  • Become the congregation’s ShulCloud expert
  • Maintain and update the web site in a timely manner, including design, forms, content and the on-line calendar.
  • Interact in a positive, professional manner on behalf of Congregation B’nai Tzedek with congregants and members of the community via phone, e-mail, and mail
  • Coordinate with publications such as Washington Jewish Week to place advertisements

Working Conditions:

This is an EXEMPT position with primary regular business-week work hours, with the exception of Fridays, when our office closes at 3pm. Works in a normal customer-centered environment. Staff are required to work on some Jewish holidays, with comp time offered for those days.

Evaluation:

Ninety days from date of employment date. Thereafter, annually. This job description does not state or imply that the above are the only duties and responsibilities assigned to the position.
