BRS Director of Operations

Job Title: Director of Operations

Location: Boca Raton Synagogue, Boca Raton, FL 

Position Summary:The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Boca Raton Synagogue (BRS) to ensure the smooth functioning of its facilities, services, and logistics. This role is critical in managing the synagogue’s physical spaces, coordinating operational aspects of programs and events, and ensuring exceptional service for members and visitors. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and committed to maintaining a culture of excellence for the Shul. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Facility Management
  • Oversee the maintenance staff and ensure the efficient functionality and cleanliness of all Shul facilities. 
  • Coordinate with maintenance staff, contractors, and service providers for routine maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to the building and grounds. 
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for regular operational tasks, vendor protocols, and event logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security protocols, including managing fire safety equipment, alarm systems, and emergency preparedness. 
  • Partner with the Director of Security to ensure a safe and secure environment.  
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Shul tenants. 
  1. Event and Service Logistics
  • Coordinate the setup and breakdown of spaces for services, programs, and events, ensuring all logistical requirements (e.g., seating arrangements, A/V equipment, catering) are met. 
  • Collaborate with the rabbis, program directors, and volunteers to ensure all operational aspects of religious services and lifecycle events are seamlessly executed. 
  • Interact with members to assist with planning events.
  • Manage and schedule room reservations for internal and external events, ensuring there are no conflicts and that all spaces meet usage requirements. 
  • Oversee High Holiday operations, including seating arrangements, facility preparation, and coordination with relevant staff and volunteers. 
  • Manage and coordinate the annual synagogue dinner, which serves as the primary fundraiser of the year.  
  1. Vendor and Contractor Oversight
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors, including custodial services, security personnel, landscapers, and other service providers. 
  • Monitor vendor performance, ensuring timely and satisfactory completion of all work. 
  1. Technology and A/V Oversight
  • Oversee the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shul technology, including sound systems, livestream equipment, and computer hardware/software. 
  • Provide technical support for events, services, and meetings, ensuring all A/V and IT needs are met. 
  • Work with IT support staff or external providers to ensure cybersecurity and data protection compliance. 

Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered. 
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years in an operations management role, preferably in a nonprofit, community organization, or religious institution. 
    • Experience with facility management and vendor relations is highly desirable. 
    • Grant writing experience a plus. 
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and operational management tools. 
    • Familiarity with A/V systems and basic IT troubleshooting. 
    • Experience with synagogue software (e.g., ShulCloud) is a plus. 
  • Organizational Skills: Strong project management and multitasking abilities, with exceptional attention to detail. 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capable of identifying and resolving operational challenges quickly and efficiently. 
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups of people. 
    • A customer service-oriented mindset to support members, staff, and visitors. 

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience, plus a generous benefits package and paid vacation schedule.
