Director of Administration & Temple Membership

 

 

Temple Beth Abraham in Tarrytown, NY is an inclusive community welcoming people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to worship in our sanctuary, study with us, and celebrate Jewish holidays and life cycle rituals.

 

We seek to hire a Director of Administration & Membership who will oversee, shape, and influence the overall temple member experience, from the initial inquiry to full engagement with responsibility for outreach, member acquisition, onboarding, and retention. This leadership position is also responsible for the overall administrative operations of the temple and oversight of its office staff. 

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership:
    • This position oversees and manages the office staff and will collaborate with professional staff on developing and implementing strategic goals while maintaining regular communication with Clergy and the Board of Trustees.
    • Responsible for overseeing income and expenses in collaboration with the bookkeeper and treasurer.
    • Oversee day-to-day office activities and serve as the main point of contact for the congregation and guests.
    • Oversees facilities manager who maintains contracts and procures supplies for building maintenance.
    • Works with board leadership to utilize federal and state grant monies to enhance safety and security.
  • Develop Membership Programs: The Director of Administration & Membership oversees the development and implementation of membership programs and community engagement initiatives.
    • Provides collaboration and project management for critical initiatives to support the Temple's growth plans.
    • Plans and executes events, such as networking mixers, workshops, and community gatherings.
    • Communicates to member families regarding giving.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Promotes and maintains good relationships with neighborhood groups and external networks.
    • Creates a welcoming space for the local Jewish community. Supports interfaith families and a diversity of individuals.
    • Organizes events and activities for the community and to enhance member engagement

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in membership management, event planning, or a related role.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders, including staff, senior leadership, vendors, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational, project management, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology and/or office skills, as could be required on the job
  • Knowledge and understanding of Judaism and Jewish communal life are strongly preferred.

This job description reflects the position’s essential functions; it does not encompass all of the tasks that may be assigned.  The salary range for this position is between $85,000 and $105,000. Salary will be dependent on relevant experience and internal equity.
