Kulanu Assistant Position

Job Description

Kulanu (which means "All of Us") is the educational program for K-7 students at the Orangetown Jewish Center (OJC) in Orangeburg, NY.  We meet from 4:15-6:15 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept - May. The position is part-time (9 hours/week with some flexibility). On-site, in-person hours are 3:15 - 6:30 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  The remaining hours may be done from home with flexible timing in coordination with the director.  The assistant works closely with the director to manage registration, publicize events and help with logistics to enable the program to run smoothly.

Kulanu is a warm and vibrant work environment.  The education director appreciates having a productive partnership with the administrator.  The students, teachers and parents are wonderful -- we are very fortunate to have this special community.    

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong computer skills (particularly Constant Contact, Zoom, Google Sheets and Docs); ability to be welcoming and helpful to parents and children at Kulanu; willingness to work from home on minor computer tasks; and ability to work collaboratively with the director, faculty and aides to help run the program effectively.  We are seeking an organized self-starter who can work independently on assigned tasks.  Training and guidance will be provided at the outset by our outgoing administrator and by the director throughout the year.  

Essential Tasks For Kulanu

  • Be a welcoming presence in Kulanu office for parents, teachers and students who need help
  • Manage registration
  • Put up and maintain eye-catching bulletin boards
  • Maintain student sign-out sheets & keep attendance records
  • Coordinate the logistics surrounding Kulanu family programs
  • Order supplies as needed
  • Coordinate 1:1 Hebrew teacher volunteers
  • Help facilitate all school programs
  • Maintain registration lists and create and maintain a family directory
  • Help with logistics for special programs
  • Send out fliers & upcoming events on Constant Contact & manage any RSVPs
  • Update the school calendar
  • Keep iPads in good working order
  • Help with publicity for the program
  • Manage Fall & Spring progress reports & mailing them to parents
  • Miscellaneous tasks as directed by Education Director
