Beth Am Israel is a 350-member progressive congregation committed to social justice work, innovative musical prayer, and collaboration between lay leadership and our professional team. We are located in Penn Valley in the Western suburbs of Philadelphia, just 10 miles from Center City. 

 

We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Education Director who will lead Jewish by Nature, our experiential, outdoor Pre-K through high school education program. Our students experience the joy and excitement of our beautiful outdoor wooded space (our Ya'ar). Together, our teachers, children, and their families form a community where Jewish learning is enjoyed and where they look forward to spending time together at Beth Am Israel. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the Jewish by Nature program
  • Hire, supervise, and provide professional development for Jewish by Nature staff
  • Create and regularly update curricula for the Jewish by Nature program
  • Develop and implement family and intergenerational programming for Shabbat and holidays
  • Actively recruit and communicate with families interested in the education program and/or membership in Beth Am Israel
  • Ensure that the education program accommodates multiple learning needs and styles
  • Collaborate with our Executive Director to develop the education program’s budget and track expenses
  • Partner with the Education Committee on educational policy issues and address specific questions or problems that may arise
  • Represent Beth Am Israel and Jewish by Nature in the greater Jewish community
  • Participate in other synagogue meetings as required and regularly report on the education program to our Board of Directors

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for innovative outdoor Jewish education, developing positive Jewish identities in children, and supporting Jewish life and community
  • Understanding of best practices in 21st century Jewish education
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage projects and juggle multiple priorities, with strong decision-making skills and detail orientation
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with children, parents, and leadership, both verbally and in writing
  • Technology and social media fluency

We are seeking candidates who have a Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of the Hebrew language and Judaism.  A Master’s degree is preferred.  We also require experience in a Jewish communal or educational setting or similar educational environment, including a minimum of three years of relevant leadership experience.  Jewish camping experience is a plus. 

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The position of Education Director is a full-time position devoted to the education of our children. We are offering competitive benefits and an anticipated salary range between $80,000 - $95,000, commensurate with your background and experience.
