POSITION OVERVIEW 

Valley Beth Shalom Day School is seeking an Interim Director of Development to cover a maternity leave. This temporary position offers the flexibility of full-time or part-time hours and is expected to run through the end of June. The Interim Director of Development will lead fundraising initiatives, manage event logistics, and collaborate closely with senior leadership to advance the school’s mission. The Interim Director of Development works closely with school administrators, employees, Board of Trustees, and parents to meet the fundraising needs of VBSDS. The ideal candidate will bring strategic vision and a strong track record in development to effectively support fundraising efforts during this transitional period.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend and oversee all calendared fundraising events, ensuring successful implementation
  • Oversee the process, timeline, and marketing for the final stages of the Annual Fund campaign, including designing an Annual Impact Report
  • Work with database/website coordinator to ensure maintenance of donor databases and reporting is accurate and updated at all times
  • Collaborate with other advancement professionals and lay leaders, including but not limited to Head of School, Director of Admissions, Advancement Manager, and VP of Development in order to determine development priorities and goals
  • Oversee the Development Committee. Work closely with the Head of School, Development Chair and Committee to follow through on the goals and strategies
  • Work collegially with the Synagogue professional staff including the Executive Director, Director of Development and lay leaders as needed 
  • Supervise Advancement Manager and Graphic Designer together with the Head of School
  • Promote faculty and staff participation in fundraising efforts
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3-5 years development, fundraising, and/or communications experience - preferably within a non-profit or independent school environment.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the Jewish community of Los Angeles.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to serve as an effective ambassador and advocate.
  • Professional, confident demeanor to interact successfully with distinguished community members and philanthropic leaders.
  • Networking ability to inspire and enlarge our supporter base.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of the professional team.
  • Strong database, spreadsheet skills and ability to make both quantitative and qualitative decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge NXT and/or Blackbaud preferred.

SALARY
$30-40 per hour commensurate with experience.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
Successful completion of fingerprint clearance, TB screening and satisfactory reference check.
