The Assistant Dean for Learning and Instruction assumes a leadership role at Ida Crown Jewish Academy, driving our students' academic advancement and our faculty's professional growth. The role is multifaceted and involves overseeing General and Jewish studies departments, curriculum development, scheduling, and various administrative duties to ensure a cohesive educational environment. As a pivotal member of our administrative leadership team, the Assistant Dean for Learning and Instruction reports directly to the Dean. 

The Assistant Dean for Learning and Instruction must have the talents and skills to advance our team's collective efficiency. The person must possess content knowledge, strong communication and collaborative skills, a shared vision, and a love for students and teaching.

Instructional Leadership:

  • Conduct regular classroom observations, encompassing formal evaluations and walk throughs, to support and foster our educators' professional development.
  • Facilitate annual professional goal-setting sessions with teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Engage in reflective practice sessions with teachers to encourage self-assessment and growth.
  • Assign teachers to their respective roles, ensuring a balanced and effective teaching staff.
  • Coordinate student academic program scheduling to optimize learning experiences.

Departmental Leadership:

  • Organize and lead regular meetings and professional development initiatives for faculty members, fostering collaboration and growth opportunities.
  • Provide professional development resources and guidance to department chairs, aiding their leadership roles within their respective departments.
  • Assist department chairs in the design and implementation of departmental professional development plans.
  • Oversee curriculum development efforts, ensuring alignment with national and local educational standards.
  • Monitor student progress comprehensively, recommending curricular and instructional adjustments as needed.

New Teacher Induction and Support:

  • Manage mentorship assignments and provide oversight to ensure effective support for new teachers.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with new teachers to address challenges and promote growth.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Jewish New Teacher Project to enhance support resources for new faculty members.

Professional Development:

  • Design and implement ongoing professional development initiatives, ensuring meaningful opportunities for all teachers and full engagement from the entire faculty.
  • Provide guidance and support to Curriculum Review Teams, focusing on one new area yearly for a two-year cycle.

Qualifications:

    • BA required; MA or Smicha preferred.

    • 5+ years teaching experience required; some administrative experience preferred

The compensation package includes a competitive salary, full health coverage, a 7% pension match, complete tuition remission at ICJA, and, depending on the school, partial or complete tuition remission at other Chicago-area Orthodox K-8 schools.
