Temple Beth Shalom is a warm and dynamic Reform congregation in Austin, TX, dedicated to fostering lifelong Jewish learning, community, and engagement. We seek an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Director of Youth Education to join our team and help create meaningful, innovative Jewish educational experiences for our youth and families.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Youth Education will be supervised by the Director of Youth Education to support and enhance our religious school programs, alternative learning models, and youth programming. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to develop curriculum, mentor educators, and inspire the next generation of Jewish leaders in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development & Supervision:
    • Develop and oversee curriculum for 2-3 grade levels, ensuring it is age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with Jewish values.
    • Supervise and mentor teachers for these grade levels, providing guidance and support.
  • Program Management:
    • Manage and oversee our innovative new alternative learning model, including recruitment, scheduling, and ongoing program evaluation.
    • Supervise and coordinate our Kindergarten through 12th grade informal youth programming, creating a safe and fun environment for participants.
  • Teacher Training & Teen Leadership:
    • Collaborate with the Director to develop and lead teacher training workshops and ongoing professional development.
    • Manage the Hadrachah Program, including recruitment, training, and supervision of teen classroom aides.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Actively participate in evening, weekend, and holiday programs to support the educational and communal goals of Temple Beth Shalom.
    • Build strong relationships with families, teachers, and students to foster a vibrant learning community.

Qualifications

  • Multiple years of experience in Jewish camping, supplementary learning, or informal Jewish education.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of prayerbook Hebrew and fluency in Hebrew reading.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively.
  • Advanced degree in Jewish Studies, Jewish Education, or a related field (preferred).
  • A passion for Jewish education and a commitment to creating meaningful experiences for youth.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $70,000 annually.
