Description

The Social Worker/Camp Care Team Member plays a vital role during the camp season. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, they are responsible for resolving issues such as socialization, conflict resolution, mental health challenges, and homesickness. They provide guidance to campers and staff, fostering responsible and respectful choices. A key responsibility is the development of MESSH (Mental, Emotional, Social, and Spiritual Health) support structures and programming for campers and staff. This seasonal, full-time position operates with part-time hours prior to the summer season.

‍Dates of Employment: June 11, 2025 – August 15, 2025

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collect intake information about campers prior to the start of camp.
  • Provide outreach to campers’ support network (e.g., psychologists, social workers).
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director on staff training.
  • Draft behavioral plans and contracts for campers as needed.
  • Debrief and provide guidance to campers and staff after crises or traumatic events; follow up with camper families as appropriate.
  • Communicate with parents/caregivers regarding camper needs and progress.
  • Record mental health interventions, successes, and challenges in the camp database.
  • In partnership with the camp leadership team, serve as a resource to campers, parents, and staff regarding MESSH challenges, fostering an environment for growth and success.
  • Assist counselors, specialists, and division leaders in problem-solving cases where extra support is needed.
  • Serve as an emotional resource for staff when needed.
  • Communicate with parents alongside the Director and Associate Director to maintain open discussions regarding camper growth or challenges.

Qualifications:‍

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Graduate or higher-level degree in a mental health field (e.g., social work, psychology).
  • Previous experience in a camp, school, or similar setting is preferred.
  • Ability to think critically and act calmly in high-stress situations.
  • Strong ability to function independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail in documentation and maintaining records.
