With a history spanning nearly 70 years, our synagogue is a warm and inviting space where individuals come together to build meaningful relationships, grow friendships, and deepen their understanding of Judaism. 

Job Summary:  

The Director of Programming and Communication of our synagogue plays a crucial role in developing and implementing innovative programming initiatives while effectively communicating the synagogue's mission, undertakings, and activities to various stakeholders. This position requires a dynamic individual with a strong background in programming and communications and a deep understanding of the synagogue's values and community. The Director of Programming and Communication will collaborate with synagogue leadership, staff, and volunteers to create engaging and meaningful experiences that strengthen our congregation and promote its mission.  

Programming Development: 

Create and oversee a diverse range of programming initiatives, events, and activities for different age groups, including children, adults, and seniors.  Collaborate with synagogue committees and volunteers to develop, implement, and evaluate programs aligned with the synagogue's goals.  Identify and engage with external resources, guest speakers, and organizations to enhance the quality and variety of programming.  Ensure that programming aligns with the values and needs of the synagogue community. Be a presence at programs to ensure they run smoothly. 

Communication and Marketing:  

Develop and execute effective communication strategies to promote synagogue programs, events, and activities to members and the wider community.  Manage and maintain the synagogue's website, social media channels, newsletters, and other communication platforms. Create compelling content that highlights the synagogue's initiatives and achievements, including short-written articles, recap videos, and promotional materials.  

Volunteer Management:  

Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support programming and communication efforts.  Provide guidance and resources to volunteers to ensure the successful execution of events and initiatives.  

Collaboration and Teamwork:  

Work closely with synagogue clergy, staff, and lay leadership to align programming and communication efforts with the synagogue's vision and strategic goals. Collaborate with synagogue professionals, synagogue lay leadership and volunteers to integrate programming and communication efforts seamlessly. Serve as a resource person and advisor to various committees related to programming and communication.  

Additional Responsibilities:  

  • Organize and oversee the creation and production of an annual Gala Tribute Journal Ad Book.  
  • Organize and oversee the creation and production of a yearly membership directory, including the development and implementation of strategies to encourage advertiser participation in the directory.  

Qualifications: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Hebrew. 
  • Proficiency in digital marketing, including social media management and email marketing platforms. 
  • Graphic design skills and familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Publisher, Canva) are a plus. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Experience organizing educational programs or events, preferably in a religious or community setting. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to actively engage with diverse members.
