About North Carolina Hillel

North Carolina Hillel serves students across the University of North Carolina System with staff strategically located across the state. Jewish students of all backgrounds come to NC Hillel to make friends in a warm, accepting environment and to explore what being Jewish means to them. For some students, it’s the first time they have a Jewish role model. For others, it’s the first time they’re exploring their Judaism on their own terms. Hillel @ NC State, NC Hillel Link (a consortium of campuses with smaller Jewish populations), and UNC Chapel Hill Hillel allow us to serve our students dynamically from the coast to the mountains.

We empower and inspire students to pursue their own Jewish journeys by creating strong communities and transformative experiences.

We aspire to cultivate within students a commitment to these core values:

  • Kehillah – Community: building relationships with Jews at home, in Israel, and around the world
  • Hachnasat Orchim – Hospitality: welcoming people from diverse backgrounds and creating a warm, pluralistic environment
  • Limmud – Learning: a lifelong pursuit of deeper understanding and Jewish learning
  • Ruchaniut – Spirituality: investigating religious questions and seeking personal growth and moral fulfillment
  • Tzedek – Justice: striving for a more just and righteous world

The Triangle, which includes Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham, is one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the South, and routinely ranks at or near the top of “quality of life” lists. The vibrant Chapel Hill/Durham Jewish community includes seven congregations, a Jewish Community Center and The Sandra E. Lerner Jewish Community Day School (Pre-K -5th grade). Moreover, the Jewish Federations located in Chapel Hill-Durham, Raleigh-Cary, Greensboro, and Charlotte work together to form a strong connection across the state.

North Carolina Hillel is affiliated with Hillel International. Hillel International enriches the lives of Jewish students so they may enrich the Jewish people and the world, and envisions a world where every student is inspired to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning and Israel.

About Hillel International

In 1923, Rabbi Benjamin Frankel started Hillel with humble means, a noble mission and a breathtaking vision: to convey Jewish civilization to a new generation. Today, Hillel International continues to enrich the lives of Jewish students and is the largest Jewish campus organization in the world at nearly 1,000 colleges and universities across North America and around the world. As Hillel evolves as an organization, the mission remains steadfast: to create lasting connections with every Jewish student that foster an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning, and Israel and train them to become the next Jewish leaders.

Hillel is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an accepting and inclusive environment for all.
