The Leffell School, a Jewish day school that emphasizes academic excellence, Jewish values, and a strong sense of community is looking for a counselor who works with students, parents and faculty to help create an optimal learning environment for each individual child. The ideal candidate understands students and their needs and, as the primary liaison between school and home, is committed to working with patience, optimism, and empathy to guide students and their families on their Middle School journey.  Frequent communication and collaboration with parents, teachers, and outside support personnel is involved in monitoring student progress. The dean will work in a team comprised of the other Middle School deans, the Director of Student Services, the psychologist, learning specialists, and the principal, will have a leadership role in the grade’s morning tefilah (prayer) experience, will lead weekly grade-level advisory groups, and may be asked to teach a subject area course.
 
A grade-level dean at The Leffell School is an essential member of the student support team. Each grade has a designated counselor, who works with students, parents and faculty to help create an optimal learning environment for each individual child.  As the primary liaison between school and home, the Dean’s responsibilities include: direct student support, family support and relations, faculty support, assisting in creating and implementing experiential educational programming, as well as other responsibilities.  Deans collaborate daily with the Director of Student Services, Dean of Students, Psychologist, Learning Specialists and other administrators and teachers to monitor individual student progress. The Dean leads weekly student support team meetings with all adults who interact with a given child, in order to gain a holistic view of that child and problem-solve ways to help students meet their potential. Deans also infuse a counseling orientation into all experiential education programming, such as daily prayer experiences, weekend retreats (shabbatonim) and class trips. Dean run  weekly topic-related counseling groups, grade-level advisory groups.
