The Lower School Hebrew/Torah Teacher will develop the student’s active linguistic ability,
based on knowledge and proficiency in the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and
writing. The active linguistic ability is built gradually from the simple to the more complex and
from passive knowledge to creative activity. Although all levels use the same linguistic
elements—genres, layers, and registers—the levels of achievement are measured on several
continuums: length of texts, the richness of vocabulary, frequency/infrequency of words, the
syntactic complexity of the sentences, and rhetorical complexity of the texts. Foster a sense of
belonging to the Jewish people, and cultivate strong ties with Medinat Yisrael (the State of
Israel) and Am Yisrael (the Jewish people).

Responsibilities and Duties
? Set high academic standards for every student in class while still adapting to the individual
needs of each student.
? Prepare lesson plans in advance that teach core objectives and principles based on the
LGI’s (learning goal indicators) for each grade and level.
? Teach the rules of grammar and other nuances of the Hebrew language.
? Track and report performance data to determine where changes need to be made and
which strategies and methods are working.

? Assess students’ abilities by applying the four skills and ensure that students are indeed
progressing toward the goal of Hebrew proficiency.
? Attend special events held by the school and engage with students and/or parents in an
appropriate, friendly way.
? Attend work a maximum of eight working days prior to the commencement of classes and
two administrative days following the conclusion of the spring semester of the school year.
? Adhere to all aspects of the Posnack Way!
? Participate in the ongoing curriculum development of Posnack School and attend all
teacher meetings.
? Communicate with the parents of each student.
? Prepare and present regular oral and written reports to parents concerning their child’s
education and welfare.
? Maintain student and family confidentially both on and off the Posnack School campus.
? Performs other duties as may be deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the
department and school such as lunch duties, carpools, clubs and etc.
? It is essential for the Employee to arrive on time to work every scheduled workday. It is
essential for the Employee to maintain good attendance and give ample notice, when
possible when Employee will be absent. It is essential for Employees to speak to co-
workers with respect and to follow all of the requirements and expectations in the
Employee Handbook.

Qualifications
The Lower School Hebrew/Torah Teacher must have a CAJE license, and bachelor’s degree or
higher, and the ability to teach all grades and levels of Lower School Hebrew. The teacher
must have two years teaching Hebrew. They must be proficient in the use of instructional
technology and online textbooks, speak fluent Hebrew, build teaching units on a variety of
topics in sequence order, differentiate the instruction. Must be certified by the Center for
Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE). Salary based on experience.
