Description

JewishAkron, a large Summit County non-profit organization that includes several distinct operating units, is looking for an accountant to fill the role of Controller. The primary function of the Controller is to maintain a system of internal controls sufficient to ensure that all transactions are executed with specific intent and authorization, the assets of the company are appropriately safeguarded, and the financial management reporting systems accurately capture all financial data relating to transactions to provide meaningful financial reports for management decision making. The Controller will oversee accounting staff and is essential to helping the team meet monthly close and other related deadlines.  

 

Responsibilities include:

· Prepare agency and departmental financial reports monthly.

, Report deviations between budget and historical periods with analysis detailing the cause and corrective action(s). 

· Prepares and analyzes all financial reports. 

· Compiles and finalizes year end reports in a timely manner.

· Manage the financial statement and retirement audits.

· Assists the CFO in the annual budging process. 

· Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

· Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including organizing staff structure to meet department goals.

· Completes general accounting functions as needed, such as recording journal entries.

· Works with the annual campaign team to ensure all pledge payments are recorded timely and accurately. 

 

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of five years’ experience.

· Experience in multi-department or multi-company settings is a plus, but not required. 

· Prior Non-Profit experience is a plus, but not required.

· Highly proficient in the use of MS Office and the use of other database/accounting packages. 

· In-depth knowledge of accounting principles; applicable accounting standards for a non-profit accounting is a plus. 

· Self-motivated with the ability to work as a member of a strong team.

· Exceptional attention to detail, ability to plan and organize and to set priorities to meet deadlines.
