We are hiring teachers to teach Hebrew one-on-one after school in both online and in person settings in Evanston, IL.

Our innovative Hebrew program pairs teachers with learners in a one-on-one setting, both online and in person. Learners have 30-minute sessions once a week (Sunday-Thursday 3:30-8:00 pm CT), focusing on Hebrew decoding and learning prayers. We would like to hire at least one online and at least one in-person teacher for the coming school year. Teachers must be available at least 2 weekdays during afterschool hours, approximately 3:00-7:30 pm CT; sessions take place during afterschool weekday hours.

  • Creatively and enthusiastically engage learners in Hebrew learning
  • Communicate with the Kehillah staff
  • Support Hebrew learning through communication with families and documentation of learner progress

We're Looking for People Who:

  • Love spending time with children and have experience leading learning experiences (at religious school, camp, or other settings)
  • Know Hebrew prayers and how to decode Hebrew (conversational fluency is not required)
  • Are dependable and can communicate effectively with learners, families, and staff
  • Online teachers: Have proficiency with teaching online, including online tools such as Zoom, Google Drive, and game and learning platforms
  • In-person teachers: Are comfortable developing rapport with learners and using creative games and tools

Details and Why You’ll Want to Work Here:

  • Our teaching team is a reflective, supportive community, with opportunities to grow your practice as an educator. Our Director of Education is known for supporting her team and creating an enthusiastic, close-knit group of teachers.
  • Pay begins at $35/hour and is commensurate with experience above that rate.
  • Teachers generally have an average of 7 learners per week. Families will set up a weekly time slot, Sundays or weekdays after school, with their teacher in August.
  • The school year will be September 2024 to May 2025.
