Why this role matters:

The ECC Administrative Assistant works in collaboration with the Bender Early Childhood Center Director and Assistant Director to support the department in administrative and customer service tasks. The Bender ECC is one of our core programs, and the ECC Administrative Assistant is central to the functioning of the school. This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with our community and to have a significant impact on the experience of our preschool families.

We are looking for candidates who are available to work Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, with a one-hour break.

The Bender Jewish Community Center in Rockville, Maryland is a premier community center at the heart of Jewish life in Montgomery County, operating a full-scale health and fitness center, pre-school, day camp and variety of education and arts programs.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the “Director of First Impressions,” including answering incoming calls from parents and prospective parents with a polite and service-oriented affect, greeting school visitors, responding to basic parent inquiries, and maintaining a working knowledge of our programs and pedagogical approach.
  • Under the direction of the ECC Director and Assistant Director, ensure proper substitute and staffing for all classes throughout each day.
  • Organize and maintain all student files, communicating with families about needed paperwork.
  • Maintain student immunization spreadsheet, student database, and class lists in Microsoft office.
  • Support the work of the classroom teachers, including maintaining up-to-date class lists and attendance sheets.
  • Address the needs of parents as requested.
  • Keep our student and staff databases in shape by updating registrations and staff changes in a timely manner.
  • Support teaching staff with copying, laminating, and other administrative help as needed.
  • Cover teacher breaks and meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned.

You should have:

  • Knowledge of safety protocols and ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor even in stressful situations.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher.
  • Physical ability to ensure the safety and care of the children, including, but not limited to, lifting, carrying and chasing children.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job as outlined in the Bender JCC Preschool Staff Handbook.
  • Schedule flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays to support the Center operations and events as needed.
  • Desire and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in working in a preschool or day care setting preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR training and certification preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time non-exempt position, with a pay rate of $20-22 per hour, commensurate with experience. The Bender JCC provides a benefits package that includes paid time off, retirement, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
