United Hatzalah is the largest independent, non-profit, fully-volunteer emergency medical services organization that provides first response care in Israel within minutes of the initial call of distress.
Friends of United Hatzalah, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which supports the work of United Hatzalah of Israel, is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO), reporting to the VP/International CEO, to join our expanding US-based team.
The new CDO will preferably be located in New York, although open to discussion. They will work on-site (if in NY) and must be able to travel to meet with donors and other stakeholders to achieve their goals.
This full-time position interacts with the entire organization, the Fundraising Committee of the Board and the Executive Committee.
The Chief Development Officer participates as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The CDO shall, in concert with other members of the SLT, provide leadership, strategic direction, management, and coordination for all fundraising efforts at FOUH. The mission of this role is to create an annual strategy to promote and increase the organization’s sustainable support from individuals, foundations, and other sources. CDO oversees all internal development and serves as a point of contact for all external engagement opportunities. The CDO will supervise all regional directors.
The CDO will bring proven experience in building and managing scalable sales or fundraising organizations. Will lead the development of a strategic roadmap for fundraising, balancing short-term revenue goals with long-term donor engagement and sustainability. Brings strong financial acumen and analytical skills to the role, including experience with forecasting, financial modeling, and data-driven decision-making. This person has proven ability to lead and inspire a geographically dispersed, remote team of fundraisers.
This position will work with the team on developing all data necessary to analyze our donors and build the appropriate strategy to ensure continued engagement with the organization. CDO will build and maintain analytical dashboards for the fundraising team to use analyzing their regions. CDO will build tools to forecast our revenue on a quarterly basis that will be shared with leadership and the board. The CDO will work with Sales Operations in identifying prospects using all platforms that are available and will share with fundraisers. The CDO in conjunction with their supervisor will look to key board members to support opening doors to new prospects on an annual basis.
Principal duties and responsibilities include:
- Development Leadership and Management
- Prioritizes donor cultivation, stewardship, and appreciation.
- Builds and manages a portfolio of approximately 50 donors.
- In conjunction with their supervisor, establishes development strategies, including an annual plan, and administers and oversees the implementation of all fundraising efforts
- Provides detailed fundraising progress reports to the President, Board, and the Fundraising Committee.
- Develops and maintains relationships on behalf of the organization, connecting others to the mission of FOUH and educating the public to enhance fundraising efforts.
- Collaborates with other organizations with similar missions to leverage resources that benefit clients.
- Personnel Management
- Directly supervises and supports the Development Team to ensure the optimization of each team member.
- Provides ongoing performance feedback and direction to development staff.
- Educates and empowers staff to enhance their effectiveness in development activities.
- Participates in supervisory group meetings, providing support and input on supervisory issues and upcoming training topics.
- Communications and Grant Management
- Oversees the content of all case statements, grants, brochures, and sponsorship proposals to facilitate donor engagement.
- Oversees with the supervisor the grant process ensuring accountability to funding entities and maximizing revenue from grants and foundations.
- Ensures all internal and external communications are focused on quality, accuracy, and effectiveness.
- Board Relations
- Participates in the orientation of new board members annually.
- Shares the development plan with the Board including specifics on Board Members’ individual responsibilities and involvement.
- Works with and supports the Board Fundraising Committee.
- Financial
- Develops and manages the annual budget for the Development department throughout the year.
- In conjunction with other Development staff, leads development activities to ensure the organization has sufficient funds to carry out its mission.
- On an annual basis, analyzes the effectiveness of each gala and event to ensure all are hitting our financial goals and engaging new donors to FOUH.
- Community Engagement
- Actively seeks and maintains positive relationships with donors, volunteers, the community at large, and other public agencies to increase knowledge and enhance partnerships.
- Supports new and ongoing community engagement events, which includes parlor meetings and fundraising dinners and gatherings.
- Ensures all Development efforts are client-centered, and mission-focused.

- Four-year college degree with extended degrees preferred, with a robust professional work history, showcasing increased work responsibilities throughout career progression.
- 15-25 years of proven experience managing sales teams and analyzing sales success either in the non-profit or for-profit sectors.
- A successful track record of personally engaging and stewarding donors and sponsors.
- Experience building and growing a high functioning team.
- Ability to work in a hands-on environment and “get the job done”.
- Must be willing to network in and build strong relationships within the FOUH community and beyond.
- Ability to gain the respect and support of various constituencies including Board and staff members, donors, foundations, and communal leaders.
- Demonstrated experience organizing and implementing such activities utilizing a CRM system and using analytics for efficient decisions.
- Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills including empathy, patience, inclusivity, and active listening.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Technical Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Salary range: $275,000-$325,000 annual salary, with comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, retirement plan with employer match, and paid holidays/time off.
