Director of Marketing and Communications

Summary

Since its establishment in 1972, Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School has cultivated a profound educational environment, fostered a strong sense of community, and upheld the enduring values of the Jewish people.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Marketing and Communications with five to ten years of professional experience to join our team. This leadership role requires strong strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage a small team. The Director will oversee and implement marketing and communications strategies that align with Heschel’s mission and vision, ensuring cohesive, impactful messaging across all platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of creating effective, engaging content, particularly in educational or nonprofit settings. Experience working closely with parents and understanding their needs is essential. A deep knowledge of Jewish culture and community is highly valued, as is the ability to bring a Jewish voice to communications efforts. Previous experience working in a school setting is a plus.  Reporting directly to the Head of School, this position plays a critical role in shaping the school’s public image and fostering engagement across all stakeholders.

Technology

  • Proficiency in modern office tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CRM and student information systems (Blackbaud experience preferred).
  • Expertise in email marketing platforms (e.g., Campaign Monitor).
  • Experience with website management platforms (e.g., Finalsite).
  • Competence in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro).
  • Photography and videography skills are highly desirable, as well as editing pictures and videos.
  • Knowledge of digital advertising and analytics tools (Google Ads, Meta Ads, Google Analytics 4).
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and form-building tools (e.g., Jotform).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key ambassador for the school, fostering strong relationships with parents, staff, and the broader community.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School, Board members, faculty, and administrative staff to align communication efforts with the school’s strategic goals.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive marketing plan, including measurable goals and strategies.
  • Manage all aspects of the school’s website, social media channels, and other marketing materials (e.g., Annual Report, Strategic Plan).
  • Lead content creation and distribution for school communications, including newsletters, grade-level updates, and emergency notifications.
  • Partner with the admissions office to design and evaluate marketing campaigns for student recruitment.
  • Oversee event marketing and promotion for key school events such as the Annual Gala, Generations Day, and Graduation.
  • Collaborate with the advancement team to support events for donors, alumni, and community members.
  • Ensure that all social media content aligns with the school’s brand and mission.
  • Track and analyze engagement data to improve the effectiveness of communication strategies.
  • Represent the school at industry events and stay current on trends in independent school marketing.
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive information.

Qualifications

  • Five to ten years of marketing or communications experience.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field.

 

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $85,000–$105,000
