The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY), a proud UJA-Federation of NY agency, serves as the primary community relations agency for the Jewish community in the metropolitan New York area.  As an active force in New York civic and communal life, JCRC-NY operates as a central coordinating and resource body to advance the values, interests and security of the New York Jewish community and build a more interconnected New York for all.

Position Overview:

JCRC-NY seeks a hands-on and experienced Director of Finance (DOF) to manage the day-to-day internal finance function, supporting the organization’s fiscal health and sustainability. This position will report directly to the COO and closely collaborate with the CEO, Director of Administration, and other Department Heads. The DOF will partner with the Treasurer and members of the Finance and Budget Committee, interact with the Executive Committee and the Board, and liaise with UJA-Federation of NY. The DOF will prepare financial statements and support the budgeting and grant management processes to advance JCRC-NY’s mission. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of nonprofit finance and accounting.  This is a full-time in-office position as our midtown offices with the option of remote work on Fridays.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

• Record entries into the General Ledger (GL) for all cash, revenue, payroll and expense activity ensuring accurate coding and reporting.
• Coordinate the monthly and annual financial close process including the recording of all accrual entries, to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with budget-to-actual reports.
• Prepare cash forecasting at a functional level showing Grants net costs and cash reporting at a business line level.

Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate the annual audit with the external CPA firm, prepare year-end schedules and supporting documentation, and ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
• Maintain current, accurate financial records and adhere to regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate the remediation and closure of any audit related findings that require management’s attention.

Budget Management & Analysis

• Lead the annual budgeting process with department heads, providing budget-to-actual analyses and actionable insights.
• Create and maintain financial reports, incorporating analytical data analysis to support decision-making.

Grant Management & Tracking

• Monitor and manage grant-related activities in the GL, ensuring accurate coding, compliance, and reporting.
• Support various departments with their data needs to align grant budgets with funding opportunities and prepare regular reports for grantors.

Payment Deposit Processing & Reconciliation

• Make deposits for check payments received through the Bank’s remote deposit solution.
• Record and reconcile all payments received including credit card, check, ACH and Wire.
• Review Accounts Receivable aging report at the direction of the Development team for collection of outstanding balances.

Accounts Payable Processing and Reconciliation

• Process vendor invoices with accurate expense categorization and payment processing ensuring department approval based on materiality thresholds.
• Issue check payments to vendors and obtain signatures for approval as required.
• Initiate ACH payments to vendors as required.
• Send to the Bank payment details for positive pay confirmation and clear exceptions that arise.
• Prepare and review an Accounts Payable aging report to monitor timely vendor payment processing.

Account Reconciliations

• Prepare monthly account reconciliations of all Bank accounts.
• Process reconciliations for all other Balance sheet accounts, including restricted net assets, and manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
• Implement internal controls and risk management strategies to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.

Special Projects & Analysis

• Lead ad hoc financial projects, including grant-related analyses, to support strategic goals.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to advance JCRC-NY’s mission and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus).
• 7-10 years of progressive financial management experience, ideally with 2-3 years in a nonprofit organization.
• Experience with grant management, budget development, financial reporting, and financial audits.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Availability to commute and work out of the NYC office at least 3 days a week.
• Advanced Excel skills including the ability to create and maintain complex excel spreadsheets, and use of Excel formulas.
• Expertise with financial accounting applications. QuickBooks experience is a necessity.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• High level of written and verbal communication skills. Experience reporting to lay leaders and donors a plus.

• Passion for the mission of JCRC-NY is essential and familiarity with the New York Jewish philanthropic and non-profit landscape is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary range: $120,000-$140,000 dependent on skills and experience
