Title: Associate Accounting Manager
Job Description: United Hatzalah of Israel is the largest independent, 100% free, fully-volunteer emergency medical services organization that provides first response care in Israel within minutes of the initial call of distress. The organization’s 8,000 volunteers receive 2,000 emergency calls per day and save thousands of lives in Israel every year.
Friends of United Hatzalah, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which supports the work of United Hatzalah of Israel, is seeking an Associate Accounting Manager, to join our mission-focused, fast-paced environment that works every day to save lives and care for the people of Israel.
This full-time position (remote work flexibility) will directly support the Accounting Manager to jointly oversee the various areas of accounting operations, comanaging day-to-day accounting functions and monthly and annual close, ensuring adherence to deadlines and industry best practice. The Associate Accounting Manager will work closely with other Finance Department personnel and serve as a Finance liaison with team members across various departments. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, personable and process-driven, a self-starter with a passion for Israel and our lifesaving mission.
A New York based candidate is preferred but not required, although occasional travel to our NYC offices will be required for someone not based full-time in New York. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will supervise 1-2 team members.
Principal duties and responsibilities include:
- Plan, implement and manage daily accounting operations
- Comanage accounting functions including banking operations, cash management, procurement, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting
- Ensure effective oversight of Accounts Payable and Procurement, providing oversight and support to AP personnel
- Coordinate and perform functions related to month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting
- Supervise and monitor the administration of payroll and benefits
- Monitor and ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies and industry-specific rules and regulations
- Coordinate with external auditor in preparation of annual tax filings and audit processes
- Research and lead implementation of new systems to introduce efficiencies and streamline processes
- Other accounting activities and projects as required
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or comparable, with minimum 5 years related experience
- Thorough technical accounting knowledge with a strong understanding of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and MS Office applications, with advanced Excel skills; working knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM a plus
- Experience with software technology, with track record of implementing software and automation tools to streamline accounting processes
- Ability to prioritize, with strong attention to detail, initiative, and follow-through
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and in conjunction with other team members to achieve common objectives
- Experience within a non-profit environment strongly preferred
Salary range: $110,000 - $120,000 annual salary, with comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, retirement plan with employer match, and paid holidays/time off, as well as travel to Israel.
