Position Overview

After Shul,  is a new and exciting Jewish After School program for K-5th grade housed at Beth Shir Shalom in Santa Monica. This program will become a unique place for kids to play, learn and do homework. We offer the services of a premium After School program with a full, experiential Hebrew school curriculum. We are, as our name implies, a peaceful and joyful Jewish community. 

The Jewish After School Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of launching and running a dynamic After School Community. This includes marketing to raise awareness about the program, creating infrastructure for procedures, develope and implement Jewish and secular curriculum and lesson planning, hiring, developing and managing the teaching team, event planning, parent communications and engagement, enrollment, and student management.

The categories of responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Key Responsibilities

Program Development

  • Promote the After School Program to the local and broader community through strategic marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Attend required meeting as determined by the Director of Education at Beth Shir Shalom
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan using email, social media, and community partnerships.
  • Integrate After Shul with other programs at Beth Shir Shalom, including co-hosting events with the preschool to build community connections.
  • Work with administrative staff to refine policies, procedures, and program initiatives.
  • Prepare the physical space for launch, including classroom setup, supplies, and transportation logistics.
  • Continuously solicit and incorporate feedback to enhance the program experience.

Enrollment Growth

  • Follow up on marketing leads and maintain consistent communication with prospective families.
  • Recruit new students through online engagement, open houses, school events, and community gatherings.
  • Conduct tours and information sessions for interested families.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Serve as a teacher when needed and help shape the student experience firsthand.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of teachers, assistant teachers, and specialists.
  • Lead staff training sessions and ongoing professional development meetings.
  • Provide hands-on support for teachers, including lesson planning and classroom management.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and motivated team culture.
  • Manage volunteers as needed to enhance program operations.
  • Participate JASA (Jewish After School Accelaerator) workshop and coaching calls as well as in person conferences.

Family Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with families through regular communication, including weekly newsletters and personal updates.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, addressing questions and concerns promptly.
  • Organize parent check-ins and community-building initiatives to strengthen connections.

Operations & Logistics

  • Oversee day-to-day facility operations, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Manage lesson plans, supplies, and budgetary needs.
  • Handle transportation logistics and scheduling based on student enrollment.

School’s Out Camp Days

  • Plan and implement engaging programming for School’s Out Camp Days.
  • Manage student enrollment, guest speakers, field trips, and daily schedules.
  • Hire, train, and prepare staff for these special programs.
  • Communicate camp details with families and staff.

Special Events & Community Engagement

  • Develop and execute co-sponsored events with Beth Shir Shalom to support enrollment growth.
  • Assist in planning and attending special community events.

Qualifications

  • Experience in education administration, program development, or related fields.
  • Strong ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create and implement engaging secular and Jewish educational experiences.

Job Details

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $60,000 - $65,000 per year based on experience

Schedule:

  • School Year-Monday to Friday, after school hours
  • 8-hour shifts
  • Weekends & holidays off (except for special events such as Purim and Rosh Hashanah Family Program)

Work Location: In-person at Beth Shir Shalom, Santa Monica
