Temple Judea of Tarzana, California is growing its Engagement Team! We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and highly organized individual to help us tell the story of synagogue life – to our membership and to the larger community – and to serve as a key administrative support within the Engagement Department, which encompasses Membership, Communications, Development, and Programs. The Engagement Team is perhaps the only group at the synagogue that interfaces regularly with, and serves to support, every other stakeholder in the organization – from our clergy team to our senior members to the students in our early childhood center. The Engagement Associate position is a full-time position and will help serve and support the Engagement Department. This person has the opportunity to engage with our entire community and will take the lead on a number of creative tasks (in collaboration with our team) including writing and designing e-newsletters, creating and executing social media posts, working on our 75th anniversary campaign, creating direct mail and promotional pieces for the synagogue, and planning and executing a small number of events throughout the year.
Position Summary:
Reporting to our Director of Engagement & Administration, the Engagement Associate will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and independent tasks. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Creating and sending two weekly congregational e-newsletters;
- Creating and sending two additional themed monthly congregational e-newsletters;
- Creating and printing a weekly Shabbat bulletin and monthly community event bulletins;
- Planning and executing the synagogue’s social media feed (primarily Instagram and Facebook);
- Working collaboratively with synagogue’s Graphic Designer, Associate Director of Development, and Programs Director, as needed;
- Assisting in the planning and execution of communications and marketing materials for synagogue programs, including but not limited to email communications, direct mail communications, signage and collateral materials;
- Assisting in the planning and execution of membership and engagement events;
- Providing administrative support to the Director of Engagement and Administration and for the department;
- Routine office work may include, but not be limited to:
- Answer telephones and general emails; provide general information about programs and schedules; convey messages to staff and members.
- Emails, calls, occasional mailings, maintaining supplies, and general support of Engagement work.
- Updating and managing spreadsheets, RSVP lists for special events requiring a response, and other recording tasks.
- Logistics, communication, and record keeping needs related to communications, development, programs, and membership.
- Undertake additional projects and assignments as assigned, contributing to the growth and success of Temple Judea.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Familiarity with ShulCloud or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) databases is preferred.
- Experience with various design software like Canva, Publisher, Photoshop or InDesign a plus.
- Experience using social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a can-do attitude, and ability to work across the organization with a wide variety of people.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and self-motivated. Capable of maintaining accuracy in administrative tasks.
- Strong writing, proofreading, editing, and research skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Familiarity with Judaism and Jewish culture a plus.
Wage and Hours: This is a non-exempt position with a wage range of $27-30 per hour DOE. The workweek consists of 34 hours, scheduled from Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Fridays, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with two ten-minute rest breaks and a one-hour meal period each day. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for special events and programs, such as the High Holy Days.

Contingencies:
Employment is contingent upon the completion of a LiveScan background check, encompassing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) screenings. Employees must demonstrate their eligibility to work on an I-9 form.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions with exposure to moderate levels of noise. It also requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequently requiring to: sit, stand, walk, talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls (manual dexterity), reach with hands and arms, input data using keyboard/mouse. Occasionally requiring to: stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift/carry loads up to 15lbs, push/pull, reach above shoulder level, use finger movements.
