Position Summary

Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) is home to Schechter Holocaust Services (SHS), Greater Boston's only program providing Holocaust survivors with vital services such as home care, food and medicine. These and other services seek to ensure that victims of Nazi persecution can age with dignity while maintaining meaningful connections with one another and with the Jewish community.

JF&CS is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Director to lead this critically important program. They will supervise a team of 5 case managers and support staff, work directly with a small caseload of survivors, and develop and oversee meaningful programs to support the survivor community. The Director will serve as a leader in the Jewish community, working to elevate the needs of Holocaust survivors with donors to sustain and fund impactful services. They will also be responsible for overseeing the administration of the grant from the Claims Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference), our largest funder, to ensure accurate financial reporting and procedural compliance.

This position reports to the Division Director, Services for Older Adults (SOA) and is a member of the SOA and JF&CS Leadership teams.

 

Leadership Responsibilities

Program management  

  • Lead all elements of the program, including developing and overseeing the program budget
  • Inspire a team of SHS Case Managers and administrative staff and foster a collaborative work environment that acknowledges the rigors of working with older adults who have lived through trauma
  • Collaborate with other JF&CS programs that serve older adults
  • Provide case management for a small number of Holocaust survivor clients

Grant management/oversight

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Claims Conference
  • Implement grant guidelines and monitor compliance
  • Partner with administrative and fiscal staff to allocate and regularly monitor spending, submit accurate reports and respond to audits
  • Develop an annual grant request that reflects the growing need for support among aging Holocaust survivors

Development

  • Cultivate and steward donor relationships
  • Develop and respond to new funding opportunities through proposal and grant preparation

Community leadership

  • Plan and facilitate JF&CS Holocaust programming
  • Collaborate on Holocaust community activities within Greater Boston

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in a social work or related discipline plus at least 7 years relevant experience preferred, or 10+ years relevant experience
  • Strong familiarity of the cognitive, physical and emotional needs of older adults as well as experience with trauma-informed care
  • Solid understanding of the Holocaust and the lasting trauma of survivors
  • Proven program management skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task and collaborate
  • Demonstrated ability to provide careful oversight of grant budgets and accurate reporting
  • Mature and flexible with top-notch communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • A commitment to JF&CS's core values of dignity, human connection, empowerment, and equity.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and other technologies, and able to learn, use and oversee client information systems.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, as needed

 

Position Highlights & Benefits

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Annual salary range: $82,000-$85,000
  • Hybrid schedule, requiring at least 2-3 days in-person in the Waltham office or in the community
